The system rewards upholding the status quo. Nobody gets into Washington DC without playing DC's bullshit games. Sanders isn't the same guy who was arrested while protesting for MLK junior decades ago.
This may very well be what the Chinese communist party's "struggle sessions" were for. Public humiliation is the key; calling bigots "weird" is only the mildest possible version of this and it already causes them to wither like a dandelion in a cup of bleach.
I wouldn't MIND bigots dying, and it would solve a lot of short-term problems, but the material conditions have to change for relief to be permanent. Racism, sexism, classism et al have to cease being socially acceptable.
