I think it's fair to ask that comrades not make fun of you (or anyone) or get on your case for wanting accuracy and pointing it out when something is less than accurate - I'm not sure that's what's going on in your screenshot - but it is a fair request in general. However, I would also like to ask that you please try to avoid using pejoratives like "moron." I know it's not a hard rule or anything here, and I know it is not intended to be used in an ableist way (most of the time) but there still is a lot of ableism embedded in the insult "moron." I think it's just better if we can do our best to replace those sort of words in our vocabulary with ones that are just as much biting towards those that deserve it without doing splash damage on those who don't.

In that very thread (which I think is sad that the whole post got removed, because it was shaping up to be quite a thorough and lively lib-smashing!) the lib that everyone was attempting to educate (with a surprising lack of PPB given their bad faith garbage), was using the term moron, and a comrade pointed out that it was an ableist term that they were using. I think that's a legitimate ask. It also would have been more effective if other hexbears weren't making the same mistake.

I don't mean to hijack your thread to make a different request or to turn your own request back on you, but I feel like it's actually a very similar thing having to do with respecting neurodivergent people.

I really hate to admit it, but I do use amazon quite a bit. It's not "like me" to use a company or service I despise, despite the truth of "no ethical consumption under capitalism," some businesses are just so evil that I feel it is wrong to support them in any way, even at the cost of convenience.

Here's the situation though. I rely on foodstamp benefits to be able to afford food. Amazon allows me to buy food in bulk online with my ebt card. I also have a disability that makes it prohibitively difficult to go to the grocery store as often as I would need to, and bulk buying online also stretches the benefits I get much further than regular grocery visits. Walmart and Target also now allow ebt cards for online food shopping, but they didn't used to, and they are evil as well!

I rationalize using amazon by telling myself that since mostly the only thing I get from them is food via ebt card, then it's really just money going straight from my state government to amazon, and my state government (just like most others) gives amazon free money anyway, so I may as well get something out of their capitalist sweetheart deal too.

Tripsit's combo checking chart (apparently now also an "app") can be very helpful. Always good to check if you plan on mixing things up. Not perfect so, still don't rely on it 100% but still, always good to have on hand.

Yes. Democrats mocked Trump (albeit correctly) and harped incessantly on how this head-in-the-sand attitude would kill millions and was emblematic of the intolerability of the Trump presidency. Then the second they were in power, they did literally the exact thing that he said, but were actually successful at it.

I'm not claiming that it is fake, I don't know. But especially after this Dril tweet (also predicting recent US-presidential events) turning out to be fake, and seeing a slew of other faked prediction social media posts recently from lesser-known people and randos, I have to say am extremely skeptical of this one. Has it been confirmed as real?

Oh. Yeah, rereading it, I guess I'm not sure which they're talking about for sure. It still seems like they meant the Jesse-Wtf one, given the comment they were responding to, and also since I don't think that Jackie Chan image was ever really a meme, let alone popular. But I could be wrong. TrashcanOfIdeology, If you mean the Jackie Chan meme is 2000's era advice animal, then my mistake, it could well be.

Dude, it's a scene from a 2019 movie and the meme wasn't a thing until 2020:

On October 11th, 2019, crime thriller El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie premiered[2] (scene shown below, right). In a flashback scene, Walter and Jesse are dining together at a restaurant, discussing food, their plans and lives.

On March 13th, 2020, iFunny[3] user CosmicRewind posted a Based on What? meme based on the latter scene. In the multi-panel meme, Jesse attempts to explain what "based" means to Walter, with him not understanding it and asking Jesse to explain himself (shown below).

Lol, that is not an 2000's-era advice animal meme. It's as recent as covid ffs.

You may not, but that doesn't change the fact that it is an extremely well known meme that internet culture in general understands and uses. Frank is speaking not just for himself, but for the broader internet meme culture. It's like the

anakin-padme-2 anakin-padme-3 anakin-padme-4 series.

I'm sure you could find images of people, even famous people, being more expressive and emotive with the "you mean... ...right? ...right??" sentiment. But nearly everyone already knows this one. It's just an internet thing at this point. Same with the Jesse-Wtf emoji. That's what Frank means by shared cultural reference (I'm pretty sure anyway, I'm not trying to put words in anyone's mouth).

Also, the jesse-wtf is imo a rather perfect expression for the way it usually gets used.

We do already have other "wtf?" emojis like wtf that express a similar but slightly different sentiment (though they also lack that cultural touchstone).

The image of Walt seems very expressive to me, but it's not the same kind of "wtf" as your Jackie Chan emoji. The Walt one expresses more of a dumbfoundedness, a kind of mild shock along with confusion and importantly, a bit of disdain. There are a lot of circumstances when that kind of specific sentiment is what's called for. That's not to say your Jackie Chan one wouldn't also have moments where it would be more fitting and the better choice, but it's showing a very different kind of emotion, one that I would expect would find moments of appropriate use fewer and farther between. In short, the JC emoji would be for different circumstances, with more over the top exasperation, and wouldn't fit well in some places where the Walt emoji does. So I would say sure, add it to the bunch, it is just definitely not a replacement of the perennial emoji that is Walt's "Jess, wtf?!"

I was the same way. I fucking despise the "git gud" attitude and decided that I would never be able to enjoy the genre that gave rise to that phrase. But I ended up playing a game I didn't even realize was a soulslike until after I became addicted to it. Ever since I've been fascinated by the way that kind of game with that set of mechanics can really hook a person in to the world and into learning and developing the strategy needed to further uncover it.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

The first soulslike I played was Salt and Sacrifice and it won me over to the genre which beforehand I had decided would be too frustrating. Unlike most soulslikes, Salt & Sanctuary is 2D, so maybe consider giving that one a try if 2D games tend to be more along the lines of what you like. I'm guessing that might be the case considering you made one! Also for that reason, it might be worth noting that Salt & Sanctuary was a labor of love made entirely by only 2 people. Make sure it's Salt & Sanctuary you're getting because they did end up putting out a sequel, which I haven't played yet but understand it to be more like Monster Hunter than a soulslike, called Salt & Sacrifice.

This discussion shows one of the main reasons why it's such a good game though. It has a depth that very few other games have achieved, not just in terms of the world and lore, but as a genuinely human kind of story that also manages not to turn all its social commentary into tepid, lib-friendly clichés.

However I don't know why people in this thread keep calling the loan shark character "Muller." His name is Strauss.

I don't know, I kind of get why they are going hard about it. When a website is a community that takes up a significant part of your day, attention, and thought, it's almost impossible not to have strong feelings about how it's ran and how you're allowed to use it, even in principle. I don't have really strong feelings about it myself, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't irk me quite a bit, especially when it seems like all the time I'm either seeing posts not getting removed that the rule definitely applies to, and simultaneously good posts with quality commentary getting removed just because the initial dunk was on some nobody reddit dork.
