Fucking hell I couldn't agree more with this post. So many people on here sound like they want to have won the breakup. Lemmy shouldn't just be "the place that's better than reddit", that's not much of an identity. I'm not interested in this place just being the Canada to Reddit's USA.

Having studied history, I am increasingly convinced that nothing brings about violent revolution like an incompetent ruling class mismanaging difficult times. Revolutions are also pretty unpleasant things through which to live though, so hopefully the times will get easier or the ruling classes more competent.
Mandarin probably wouldn't help you much, since only about 40% of people in China even understood it, the 7 decades since then have changed that by quite a lot.
