Well it's been working that way in practice for me for years.
I live in a dry climate, so I need to run a humidifier year round. I also have extremely hard tap water, and that's all I put in the humidifier (along with a capful of sanitizer). Replace the wick every 60 days, or when it gets hard from calcium buildup). I've been doing it this way since 2021 without a single problem.
Stop overthinking humidifiers. They're literally just a tub of water with a fan attached to them. And please do yourself a favor and watch this Technology Connections video. There is actual science behind what I'm saying.
If you're paying rent, it is expected that a dishwasher is included in the cost of your rent. If it's not, you need to find a place that provides basic appliances. It is the landlord's responsibility to provide a dishwasher, not yours.
