Can vouch for smoke buddies. Not a bad price and works better than a makeshift sploof. Not bulletproof but works well enough.

Canadian here. I think the law is stupid. It's literally free advertising. I use Google News to see a bunch of local and national news sources in one spot. I only see the article headlines. If I want to see anything, I have to click and go to the full article. The news companies aren't paying anything to get aggregated and they get free traffic to their site.
In regards to the quoting pieces of the article they're linking to in search results, the brief snippets they provide often have barely any information at all or cut off before the information you want to see, so you have to click on the results anyway.
Our government is just inept when it comes to the internet.
It's the silliness of the contrast between them. Similar to the animal crossing and doom communities coming together and creating memes when their games launched on the same day.
Fediverse.observer is a good resource for sorting through and finding different instances for all types of activitypub platforms. There are pages for Lemmy and Kbin among plenty of others. That's how I found the instance I'm currently on, and I'm pretty happy with it.
I do lawn care and I've had heat exhaustion/minor heat stroke more times this year than every other year combined. I'm in Canada and I remember when 30 celsius with the humidex was hot. Now it's getting to nearly 40 fairly consistently.
Honestly, with how crap everything is getting and how many times governments have had to give out various relief funds the past few years, why do we not have a universal basic income yet? At least that way they wouldn't have to pass a new law every few months to give out a bit of pocket change that doesn't actually make a difference with how high the cost of living is now.
Don't know specifics, but this is Canada's worst fire season since 1990.
No apps, just use a DNS server that blocks ads. I like Control D. They have servers with many major blocklists and can be used with DoH, DoT, or just old unencrypted DNS if needed.
Yeah. When I was trying to find a kbin instance to join I'd go to the different ones, read the FAQ, privacy policy, terms of service, and made an educated decision after finding one that I thought was good, and I am not disappointed with my choice. A directory would be nice but a few extra clicks to find out the same information with more detail is worth it imo
If this is about blocking ads, how will this stop people using DNS based ad blocking? Been using control d for awhile and it's been great. Use their DNS on my router and every device in my house is ad free.
I pay for YouTube premium family as much as I hate doing it, mainly because of my step daughter. It's not easy to block YouTube ads on Roku, and my wife and I weren't a fan of the ads they would be showing before videos we would put on. She travels to her dad's place often so I have the family plan so no matter where she is she won't have to deal with ads.
Rather not be raising a child messed up by advertisements telling her what to think. When she gets a bit older and can understand what advertisements are I'll finally cancel, but she's very young and impressionable.
Having a similar problem on endeavour os. When I try to sleep or hibernate it gives it a shot but I get a quick flash of a message about a device preventing sleep. Nothing plugged into the laptop, no fancy built in accessories.
