Meta is actually a huge contributor to open source, and I think it's worked out well for them. Hopefully they stick to it.

I use Vivaldi, which isn't perfect, but I need tab grouping in some form. Firefox's solutions for tab groups are meh at best

The trick is having 3 monitors so you can have even more tab groups.

Vivaldi also supports multiple workspaces that can each have their own tab stacks.

That's not really how it works, but I hear you.

I don't think we can bury our heads in the ground and hope AI will just go away, though. The cat is out of the bag.

Seconded on Joplin. Does everything I need, looks nice, and I can sync it if I want to

Unfortunate, but to be fair, things have changed a lot in 20 years.

There are definitely still angry linux nerds on forums, but I think the experience is a lot more streamlined.

I also got my Tesla before Elon went full crazy, and there only recently were a lot of options. Even then, most were waitlisfed for months and months. Tesla manufactures a ridiculously high percentage of the EV market. Most large car companies are still just dipping their toes in EVs.

You can't trust corporations to not ruin a product eventually. The reason federation and FOSS is so important is that it strips the power dynamics that typically corrupt online spaces. Is it perfect? No. But reddit didn't become shitty because of individuals making bad choices, it became shitty because it had to.

VanillaOS is pretty much what you're asking for. The only real downside right now is that Orchid probably won't have KDE support out of the gate

Also, AI only really needs to scrape a post once. I don't think there will be much financial gain from openai or someone else scraping reddit

Yeah but a $100 airbnb vs a $225 hotel is a different discussion
