Yeah, that was what GW Bush called the "Axis of Evil", blending the Axis from WWII with Reagan's description of the USSR as the "Evil Empire". It was a 2000s-era remix of 20th century greatest hits to make the US public support more war. Even back then when the US empire was at the height of its unipolar power it was running on nostalgic fumes of past glories.

Also for contrast, I found comparable government stats for (some) Canadian cities. I guess they follow the typical Canadian pattern of being completely shit compared to the rest of the world, except for the even-shittier USA: Vancouver: 22.5% Toronto: 20.6% Montreal: 16.4%

Web 3 was never anything but marketing nonsense. To be fair, that was true for Web 2.0 as well. Web 2.0 was always about rebranding the internet as a profitable thing for high finance to invest in following the 2000 dotcom crash. It had nothing to do with any particular technology, and O'Reilly's manifesto about Web 2.0 was filled with nothing but marketing slogans. After all, he was just a knock-off "Windows ME for Dummies" book publisher who stumbled on a con that San Francisco financiers loved to use. Almost 20 years later the crypto weirdos - who had been at their own con for the majority of the intervening years - thought that making a sequel of O'Reilly's Web 2.0 con would be an excellent idea. It's bullshit all the way down and always has been.

Yeah, and telling people to just pay for a VPN isn't a great answer either - that's just another fucking pay-forever subscription with the price rises of Netflix plus the added jank and nonsense that comes with being a copyright infringement hobbyist.

Maybe I'll just cancel everything and do totally offline ripping of borrowed physical media from the public library, like some kind of pirate hermit.

That unnaturally white toothy grin makes it look like a real estate agent ad at a bus stop.

They make you pay for the vaccine in the US? Fuck's sake, no wonder there's all these new variants every year

jesus-christ I have no idea if that's bullshit or not, but this is definitely turning into a tragic bodycount measuring contest. I'm outta here. peppino-run

Yes coal is indeed very bad and needs go away immediately. But I'm not so sure if coal being bad makes radiation cancers from Chernobyl, Fukushima, Three Mile Island, Sellafield, etc etc etc not worth caring about.

I really don't want to play top trumps over which tragic disaster is worse by measuring bodycounts, as this is all way too grim and I think we can agree that the worst case scenarios for all of these things are awful in their own distinct ways. But that number you put for nuclear is difficult to believe. Where did you find it?
