I kinda wonder what people in the 3 letter agencies are thinking right now. I would hope that enough of these agencies actually view Trump as a fundamental threat to democracy, because he actually is. People have warned for this to happen, for a while now, even though many are surprised at the speed at which it happens. But still, you would kind of hope for some of these agencies to actually stand for the constitution, instead of for the ruling party and his current president.

The US is so much more than just the current political ruling class. It's sad that there seems at least, to be so little visible opposition to their efforts to derail the US geopolitical power and to overthrow the system of law and order. One who the Republicans should hold deep, and definitely the people who pledge their allegiance to the constitution. I wonder if it would have gone different if someone like Saunders or Obama would have tried a similar play.

Totally agree! I use CEO in that way, but yeah, he is definitely an uber rich asshole, who is paid way more than could ever be fair. Definitely more than could ever be what he 'deserves' or 'earns'.

Right now, i think some of these people are absolutely unable to participate in society because they literally exist outside of the normal bounds, far outside of them. And exactly that will create major problems, well it already has and we're living through it. What's to keep these assholes from actually demanding this kind of work hours from workers? Like, they will do so, absolutely, once you let them.

I'm just not at all sure in what way in the current liberal system, we're able to limit the wealth and power of these individuals. Yeah, taxes of course, but these people are so deeply connected to political class and are able to bully the legal system... So, that's a hard challenge there.

Well, if Sergey Brin wants to work 60 hour weeks, be my guest. Sounds like a good idea for the CEO class, since they should really justify what they're paid.

WaPo should really remove the 'Democracy dies in darkness' if they choose to no longer support democracy. Kind of like how Google removed the, 'Don't be evil' motto, when it didn't suit them anymore.

Good question. Would love that!

If BlueSky is full of Jew hate, "it's legion", but you’re still using it over Mastodon and Mbin, doesn’t that contradict the idea that antisemitism makes a platform unattractive? If it were your main issue, wouldn’t both be equally bad? Seems like the deciding factor is engagement for you personally, not what moderation happens or doesn't happen.

If antisemitism were the real deal-breaker, you wouldn’t be on BlueSky either.

Inevitable crash of the Streaming Wars, the period of rapid growth is at an end. The pricing was enticing for a reason, because the economy enabled rapid growth in the then new streaming space. Content is still king and investing in great content just got wat more expensive when the interest rates went up. This means the services need to actually become profitable or get out of the game for how expensive it is.

Now it will be a question of what service is able to last, who buys who and what content owners will go back to selling their content to those who remain.

Some more speculations from me:

  • We'll see more price increases across the board, and limitations of how you can watch content. (Thanks NF)
  • Ad free packages will become more expensive, or might even leave eventually.
  • Subscriptions with ads will become way more popular.
  • Smaller players like Peacock and Showtime might decide to just sell to who ever pays most and cease operations for their app.
  • Netflix and Disney might introduce new subscriptions that only offer a subset of their library

Edit: I think it is also likely that monthly subscriptions will become semi monthly or even a minimum of 3 - 6 months. If that doesn't happen, then series will become even way more spread out in their release dates as is currently the case. (Season 1: The Fall, Season 1: Gradient etc.)

Not worth it imo. Reddit doesn't get any more of my time, if it isn't necessary.
