My Uber driver was telling me about this company, trying to get a referral. He was saying you get paid $60 for a two hour session where you wear a helmet and type shit out.

Not as much of an ai hater as a lot of the people here but this use case sounds particularly dystopian. So I figure if enough people sign up and just think about random shit and fuck up there data maybe that'll gum up the works long enough for them to run out of money.

Iran with nuclear weapons is a nuisance for all ~~civilized countries~~ countries that want to bomb Iran with impunity

Thank God the pillar of stability Israel has nukes, though. They aren't aggressive like Iran, they're only at war with half their neighbors.

It may have helped bibi in the short term but the zionist project has lost all credibility for almost anyone under 40 who aren't bought off by Israel.

Once the Islamophobic older generations die off its going to be real hard for Israel to keep it's western support. It's just like South Africa, it took the generation who grew up in segregation to die off and loose all power in order for the west to drop support for them.

If hamas didn't do oct 7th then Israel could've kept up it's quiet ethnic cleansing with more settlements, settlers violence, "mowing the grass" in gaza etc. Keep it out of western media and allow westerners to think Israel is a normal democracy just like them. Oct 7th made Israel go mask off and show there true goals, and most people are disgusted by those goals.

The vast majority of coding isn't making something new, it's using existing patterns and tools and arranging them to fit a specific use case.

Llms may not be able to create a new framework or design pattern, but neither will most coders in there day to day.

There's also a video going around now of him in 2011 claiming Obama was going to start a war with Iran, due to his incompetence at negotiating, right before the election to boost his popularity.

He's projecting more then an imax movie theater.

He is definitely able to do it. Over the past months he's shown that he can act unilaterally on pretty much anything, especially on foreign policy, and no one stops him. He could stop weapons shipments to Israel tonight and if that happened Israel wouldn't be able to support it's 4 front war on the region and have to come to the negotiating table. He just doesn't because he's a coward and afraid of the Israel lobby.

He's already stopped aid to ukraine, no reason he can't do the same for Israel.

From what I've heard, their strategy has been to stall at being 6 months away from a bomb. They could've finished their program a while ago if they wanted to, North Korea did it with far less resources. They don't do it because:

  1. It puts them in the dangerous MAD nuclear game theory with Israel
  2. It would make them into a pariah state like North Korea and close off any possibility of sanctions relief.

They still want to be somewhat ready though for situations like this where full scale war with Israel is inevitable so if they can survive the war for 6 months they can do a test, establish nuclear sovereignty and get Israel to back off.

Yeah, cause governments tend to implode when the countries arch enemy attacks them...

Hamas hasn't even imploded, and the people have way more reason to blame them for their current situation than the Iranians can blame their government for pursuing a nuclear program that most of the country agreed with.

No matter how unpopular a government is there, they're still going to be more popular than Israel, and people will rally around any flag to fight their flagrant aggression.

No fan of psl's authoritarian apologia but true to the stereotype the Marxist leninists continue to be the ones organizing most on the ground. See them at a lot of protests here in the bay area and a lot more of the disruptive ones compared to dsa who like to keep an eir of respectability and don't want to be associated with burning waymos.

It's not that borrowing money is free, zero interest rates means the government pays zero interest for its loans, not companies. It does put downward pressure on interest rates companies pay but they're still going to have to pay a couple percent apy.

The reason zero interest rates are good for tech is because it forces capital to seek more long-term and risky investments. If I have a lot of money and can get 6% apy from loaning it to the US government, the safest bet on the market, why would I invest in something else? If i can't get any money from loaning to the government (zero interest rates), and i cant get much from loaning it to other institutions because of that downward pressure, then maybe I'll buy some more risky tech stocks because it's possible for that company to grow more then the 1-2% id get from just lending my money. Most of techs financing is done through selling stock, not loans.

Yeah, since it's "peace time" and less risk there's probably a decent chunk of the armed forces who are just in it for the perks ( free college, Healthcare) and don't believe in it and are trying to serve there time and get out and not make a career of it.

They aren't cops who almost always want to be cops and make it a core part of their identity and belief system. They aren't allowed on lemmy.

It's been two months since "liberation day" here in the u.s. and while most of the tarrifs are on a pause the tarrifs on China are still pretty high. I haven't noticed anything from my normal grocery runs, was wondering if anyone else has noticed anything.

The u.s. produces a surplus of staples, especially corn and soybeans that are exported mostly to China. If China does retaliatory tarriffs won't that lower demand for those staples and thus the price in the US? And theoretically couldn't that also reduce the price of downstream animal products since feeding them will be cheaper?

This assumes:

  1. Food companies don't use the excuse of tarriffs to raise prices even when there costs go down
  2. The government doesn't step in to back stop corn demand and buy tonnes of it to keep prices high. I know they did this with dairy in the 70s and 80s, not sure if they still do it.

Idk if media rants are allowed on here but didn't know where else to post.

For context righteous gemstones is a comedy about the children of a mega church pastor who try to succeed him and lead the church despite there horrible personalities. Generally makes fun of the hypocrisy of these rich church pastors pretty well.

The first episode of the newest season is a flashback to the civil war and the origins of the family. It opens with the ancestor of the gemstones shooting a southern pastor preaching about "states rights" after the service. At first I thought this would be great, this guys gonna go around killing confederates like django. Sadly no he just did it to rob the pastor then goes on to impersonate him as a pastor for the confederates on the Frontline. The rest of the show centers on him being a horrible pastor and focuses on how bad this con man is compared to the soldiers. It then ends with the union capturing his unit and committing a war crime by executing all of them except him.

The depiction of the civil war is completely white washed and focuses on making the confederate soldiers sympathetic children suffering and dying for there country. Slavery is never mentioned, there are no slaves or black people shown, none of the confederates even say anything racist.

I understand that portraying all the confederates as ultra racists with every other word out of there mouth being the n word would be inaccurate. It would've been funnier if they did and then we watched them get mowed down by the union, but for some reason this episode they tried to be serious. If you are going to be serious and pretend like this is an accurate portrayal then whitewashing them is just as bad as painting them as evil racists. I get there trying to humanize people often cast as the bad guys but removing there flaws isn't humanizing, it's veneration.

The rest of the season seems to be fine and pretty unrelated, so if you do want to watch it go ahead and skip the first episode, wont miss much unless you want to learn about the lost cause myth and how a lot of southerners still view the war.
