I spent some time with my friend who is really more like a little brother. We havent seen eachother in a long time. Hes a discord mod for a game that he mods.
He told me that he ran into some drama with the trans community and he said he tried to keep his server moderated evenly and kept hate out of his server.
-
Hes a good kid, genuinely a sweet and thoughtful person.
-
He may be on the spectrum and he's also had some heavy trauma happen to him.
-
He only cares about this game and I could understand why hes getting upset that people are talking about anything but the game.
But he was telling me about how unreasonable trans people were and started giving off the anecdotes of trans people trying to get someone fired.
I responded that trans people were like such a minority not even a fraction of the population and that those anecdotes even if theyre true can't represent everyone in that community. And additionally that being trans is pretty difficult and there seemed to be a lot of "I never thought of that" moments for him. The conversation was broader and longer than this but I do think he got something out of it.
We also talked about how to synthesize opinions from contradiction, that a lot of the obvious best opinions exist outside of the hyper polarization in our politics and there is an effort to keep people from not thinking like that.
He's a good person and genuinely doesn't want to be a hateful person, hopefully our conversation set a lot of things straight.

Music is a good thing, it's something everyone should be able to participate in and the artist v audience dynamic is a western delusion of what music really is.
In it's current form, Music has come to mean to me as a way to keep rich kids out of doing worse things to the world.
But honestly theres a useful contradiction there im realizing, like you being involved in the scene is what makes it interesting to these people and just existing and attracting them to the spectacle of a living music scene is also important. In this way you are an ingredient to keeping rich kids out of being an absolute demon.
I guess that's true for all the arts too though
It seems like a guy JP Bowerstock was behind a lot of it
