That's a feature that was implemented what, 1 or 2 years ago when Signal's been around for a decade?

You can't possibly expect people to just jump from one social app to another that has such a relatively small user base and little familiarity. Entire Discord servers would have to jump ship and it would just be a nightmare for most people.

What Discord prioritizes, Signal treats as an afterthought. Things like group chat, video chat, GIF usage, etc, Signal has never really prioritized.

Discord's mobile and PC apps both allow users to select GIFs within the application, whereas only Signal's mobile app allows users to select GIFs within the application and Signal's desktop app doesn't allow for in-app GIF selection. If you're reading this thinking "who tf cares about stupid stuff like that?", you're completely missing the point because regular ass users care about stuff like that and they totally will say "fuck that" to an alternative if it doesn't have features like this. Why doesn't Signal incorporate in-app GIF selection for its desktop app? I'm sure it will be eventually implemented but dragging their heels like this for popular features and then having the nerve to ask "why aren't people flocking to us instead of Discord/WhatsApp" is such an out of touch question to ask.

When open source developers ask for feedback from regular users and their response to said feedback is"ACKSHUALLY it's your fault, not the application's fault", as it often is, it's no surprise that their software never gains traction. It's like a guy who wears cargo pants to a formal affair and then gets into an argument over attire because in his mind, cargo pants = more pockets = superior, completely oblivious to every other factor.

Another thing-- Signal requires your phone number, Discord doesn't. I know right away folks are going to rage about how Discord is the real privacy nightmare, not Signal. I don't disagree, but the average user is just going to be more wary about being forced to give up their phone number in order to use Signal, even if the software now allows them to hide it.

I don't like being misinterpreted.

I feel like this had to have been made by someone who doesn't watch superhero TV shows or movies. I'm watching X-Men right now and it's the complete opposite of this.

Did you reply to the right person? I'm not sure how your comment is relevant to mine. I'm well aware of why public transit is poorly funded and developed.

I hope you're right.

I have all kinds of cable extensions specifically to reduce my reliance on BT. Wired bedside headphones and keyboard are the best

It wasn't intentional, FFS. I hate this place so much.

Signal isn't an alternative to Discord. I use both and they're used very differently. Group movie watching for example is pretty easy on Discord.

Digg had users and people jumped ship to Reddit because it was better.

And Dollar General is part of the problem, constantly selling garbage-tier products that reek of planned obsolescence. Their entire business model relies on predatory practices that screw over the poorer US consumers they speak of.

Some good news: Dollar General's stock price has been tanking hard since around the end of 2022.

Edit: Also thanks OP for providing a paywall-free link, very much appreciated. I clicked the original link and thought "damnit, if only OP posted a link witho--oooooh, OP did!".

She did a good job but this really made me appreciate how unique Chester Bennington's voice was.

Edit: I take it back. She's a Scientologist. Gross.

The vast majority of the time a woman is murdered, it's at the hands of a man. Yes.

"Although women comprise more than half the U.S. population, they committed only 14.7% of the homicides noted during the study interval. More than twice as many women were shot and killed by their husband or intimate acquaintance than were murdered by strangers using guns, knives, or any other means."

I'm going to bed but there's countless other studies that show the same trend not just in the USA but in countries across the world. This paper was published in '92 and for those who doubt its legitimacy based on its age, I recommend looking up modern papers on this.

Edit: One last thing before I go to sleep. I'm not making these comments because I want to make men feel bad, or that I think the average guy on Lemmy reading this is a murderer or potential murdered. I'm saying this because as men, we need to cut the bullshit and stop acting like we don't hear other men casually talk about domestic violence, either "jokingly" or dead serious, or that we don't see other men engaging in verbal or physical abuse against women. As a POC, I feel pretty much the same way about racism-- I don't think the average white person is some KKK member but please for the love of god white folks, if you hear someone (especially your friends/family) saying/doing some racist shit, call it out!

Lotta downvotes but no responses to the study I provided. Not at all surprised. Until men are willing to simply acknowledge the existence of this problem, we've got a long way to go. Leftists on Lemmy definitely showing their true colors and it's not surprising, so many leftist spaces get ruined by sexist men who want a safe space where they can discuss racism, transphobia, homophobia but sexism... Nope.

To this day, neither the National Guard nor the Minneapolis Police Department have addressed the crimes committed in this video. Accountability works both ways.

I know this is the autism community but as someone with ASD and ADHD, I thought people here might appreciate this video. There tends to be an overlap between the two.

In today's video we are exploring the idea that sustainability is "women's work" and that there might be an Eco Gender Gap. We cover man theories around masculinity, femininity and it's affiliation with the Earth, and much more.

Note: This isn't my video but I have a background in research science pertaining to a field relevant to this video and in my opinion this is one of the best videos I've seen on environmentalism. I believe this video should be shown in elementary schools, high schools, colleges and universities.

There's a certain community there that I'd like to filter because a) I find the content/discussions to just be generally awful circlejerky nonsense and b) it's polluting the "All" section that I like to browse.

All my life I've been been slim/athletic, but it's had far little to do with any kind of discipline and far more to do with me constantly forgetting to eat/drink regularly, plus sports. I'm tall too so that's always helped a lot.

It's starting to annoy me though because I know eating/drinking regularly is generally healthier than eating/drinking sporadically, and I'd like to figure out a method of fixing this that fits well with how my mind works.

In the past, I've manged to fix a number of lifelong issues I've struggled with by using resources geared towards people with autism and ADHD. I used to be fairly unorganized until I found these resources and now my stuff in general is very organized in a way that I actually enjoy maintaining.

I'd like to find a similar way to fix this issue I have with not eating/drinking regularly-- basically a way to structure things so that I eat/drink regularly in a way that I can really get into a repetitive groove.
