If you haven't checked out Ursula K. Le Guin, I highly recommend her. Lathe of Heaven is a great/short taste of her style, but if you want something darker I'd say maybe The Eye of the Heron.

It really needed to be a peripheral device at 1/5 the price. World isn't ready for laptop-goggles.
Pointing out flaws in the country shouldn't be seen as a personal attack or critique. Many of the victims of America are it's citizens (e.g., the incarcerated).
Nationalism just twists the government into our personal identity to manipulate us. Making fun of the government/system is healthy.
This isn't "Americans dumb" content, which attacks the actual citizens and understandably may weigh on someone.
Yet, Mastodon had a big discoverability problem. No follow recommendations, no "highlights" tab, no search practically as follows don't think to hashtag.
There might be many great artists and creators on Mastodon, but good luck finding them!
I was shocked to learn that dental sealant exists. This simple procedure is very effective in preventing cavities, so once a kid has adult teeth they'll be protected into their 20s.
Yet, many people don't know to ask for this and can't afford the upfront cost (about $40 per tooth). Yet, unless your kid has fewer than 3 cavities as a teen it is the most cost effective and wellness promoting option.
It's wild to me this isn't a heavily subsidized and promoted procedure, but I guess dental care =/= healthcare...
The black panthers are really the best example of the (few) benefits and many costs of armed community defense. It's much worse now, too.
It's unfortunate that this drop in replacement isn't in the fediverse though. Bluesky's success isn't technical (yet), it is better marketing and connections with VIP users.
I believe they opened things up to developers recently. I do think they will become decentralized, but am more concerned it will become a "no censorship" aka "no moderation" mess pretty quickly. It relies quite heavily on filters and aggregators rather than moderators.
Yes, and fascism is authoritarian.
Can't wait for spez to copy this decision too.
" Hey you want the humane and equal treatment of all peoples, and I have an opposite opinion that some people should be subservient or eliminated. Woah woah why are you banning me."
It's a painfully American sentiment that was prominent in the civil war. "Hey we just disagree on slavery..."
So much of my job is email and I was forced to use Outlook instead of Thunderbird a few years back. It feels like every day it is actually fighting me over every small task. Moments at work where I'd formally clear 2-3 messages, I'm now lucky to get through one. I've seriously considered finding a new job over it, but I know Office365 dominates my field these days.
