What you've described, sounds like some basic user errors which would've been easily solved by sticking to good modeling practices. To be honest, these aren't always easy to follow / learn in the first place. If you're interested, have a look at the wiki: https://wiki.freecad.org/Feature_editing#Advice_for_creating_stable_models
