On my Linux installation, I just plug it in, "trust" the PC, and I can open it in my file explorer as I would any other USB storage device. Do you need a 3rd party app to do that on Windows?

In my experience, most modern laptops don't include one.
You still need a microSD to USB adapter if you want to use it with a PC that doesn't have a microSD slot (which I'm sure is like 99% of PCs).

EVs powered by fossil fuels still result in less emissions than ICE vehicles, since the big turbines in power plants are more efficient than the tiny engine in a car. But walking or taking public transportation is of course a lot better than both.
