Meta casts a wide net with all their apps. Maybe someone deletes their Facebook app but still needs WhatsApp to communicate with family, for example. I love the idea of that app in particular "not looking at your messages" while it learns about all your out-of-app browsing behavior without your knowledge or consent.

Matrix stores everything across redundant servers, with optional encryption (while some things like room names and ranks are never encrypted), while SimpleX uses encryption for everything.
Basically SimpleX is decentralized Signal.
I'm not sure why jump to mentioning it because it's lesser-known (and still not as feature-complete as Signal), but IIRC the lead developer may be of Russian heritage.
