They're volunteers running the instance personally, not a corporation with a legal team who can advise them how to best handle piracy related communities without being sued. Especially since their instance has to cache content from instances they federate with, it's hard to blame them for being overly cautious with piracy communities on instances out of their control to avoid being sued by litigation happy media corporations

Browsing through the global feed scratches the same itch as browsing through r/all mindlessly does and I don't miss much from Reddit, but I really miss r/noncredibledefense, and neither Lemmy spin off community is nearly as active

You can filter out instances with Ublock Origin for desktop and Sync for mobile. This will remove any posts and comments from users from that instance. It's a lot easier than trying to get your instance admin to defederate a major instance or setting up your own while still getting rid of hexbear for you

They're just normal people running the instance, not a major corporation with a legal team. While it's unfortunate they defederated, it's understandable that they'd rather be overly cautious when it comes to stuff they can be sued for

Even the premium Peacock plan gave ads for Peacock content

You just need 3 largish televisions, a small TV or monitor for the top, and stuff to mount each screen in that configuration. Your PC doesn't need to be that good unless you are doing something like gaming, just enough to run 4 1080p windows. Once you connect them, it's fairly easy to adjust the configuration in Windows to extend and rotate the monitors to make the setup work. Depending on how you get the televisions (you can buy them used, flat screen 1080p TVs have been popular for a long time and are relatively affordable) and how you decide to mount them, you can build this setup for only a couple hundred

I always see it posed as "we either nuked Japan or we invaded", but the nukes were absolutely used in preparation for a land invasion. Nuking Hiroshima and Nagasaki fit into the highly controversial US strategy of strategic bombing Japanese industry prior to a land invasion, and they were not even the most deadly of our strategic bombing campaigns against Japan (the fire bombing of Tokyo was worse). A proper invasion of Japan post introduction of nuclear bombs commanded by one of our most infamously nuke happy commanders, Douglas MacArthur, planned to have US troops marching through the radioactive wasteland formerly known as Japan slaughtering anything that resisted them. It wasn't an either or, we weren't nuking Japan as an alternative to a land invasion, we were nuking them in preparation for a land invasion

When the words "experimental nuclear reactor being built near you" doesn't attract massive groups of protesters fueled by the coal companies, allowing for the tech to actually be built and tested

For decades, the Republican party has had the Baptist/Evangelical vote in the bag without having to actually do anything thanks to abortion. Republican politicians could rile up their base attacking abortion and be excused for not doing anything about it by their constituents as abortion was a constitutional right, and because abortion was a constitutional right that couldn't be taken away, those who cared about it could still be in good conscience when they vote for a Republican. The dog caught its tail when Roe was overturned, and now that abortion can be outlawed on every level of government, Republican inaction on abortion will see their support among Baptists/Evangelicals tank. Overturning Roe is the most self damaging thing the Republican party has ever done, and now they are forced to choose between catering to religious fanatics or normal people

A decent portion of Japanese sword fighting techniques revolve around how to not break your sword in half while using it. That's not a concern with Damascus steel swords

Fallout 76 is pretty good nowadays and it's on Gamepass so you can play it for free if you have that. There are several major questlines to do at your own pace, the largest 3D fallout world to explore, the best Fallout lore and world building of any Bethesda Fallout game (NV and 1/2 still beat it though), and gameplay that builds off of the strong foundation set by 4. If you just do the major questlines solo and ignore all of the multiplayer aspects and world exploration, there's at least 50 hours of solid content, and coming from a diehard New Vegas fanboy who hated 3 and 4, I enjoyed my time playing 76
