I am once again asking you please don't boost this thread by upvoting it. I know it's a tiny lil thread but we don't want needle talk making it to all. That can be a major trigger for some people.
JustSo
Oh nice, thanks comrade.
All my fucken years on HRT and kicking it back in the day with dozens of OG DIYers on IRC and I totally forgot that HRT injections are the same deal. I was trained to shoot myself up with an epipen when I was a kid so I've got a pretty good handle on that aspect of things, but I'll review the material anyway just to make sure muh dunnings kruger aren't going to bite me in the.. wrong part of the body. lol.
Oh also I just showed this post to one of my chem friends who also dabbles in various things. They suggested that you should probably make it clear in the post that users should be seeking chelated magnesium / magnesium chelate as their primary magnesium in the formulation they pick. Not sure if it's discussed downthread somewhere, but a lot of magnesium supplements use mag oxide which is barely bioavailable, its just cheap, bulks up the tablet and is technically magnesium heh.
Noting also that formulations (the better quality ones usually) will (in our geography) include something like,
Magnesium amino acid chelate 1000mg equiv. to magnesium 200mg
on the bottle.
Oh neat, i forgot about the grapefruit juice thing.
That has the unfortunate side effect of reducing estradiol efficacy if I'm not misremembering. Ring any bells? I think it can be worked around by just dosing the HRT sublingual but I really can't remember where actually the interaction/interference occurs in the metabolic process so I might be wrong.
Yeah I guess "macrodosing" isn't exactly the right word but before I saw your answer I just took two of my pills after checking online for max recommended and checking the bottle. Technically I'm slightly overdosed but I doubt it'll be by enough to cause any maaajor issues. If I end up shitting rivers all day I'll revise my opinion.
Yeah, I've had the bottle of magnesium just sitting on the coffee table so I'd "remember to take it" and just stop noticing it and forget. I'm pretty good with my B and Iron tho, so I just need to make this routine. I was complicating things by trying to take the mag in the evening cuz relaxant == better sleep but I'm a full time benzo user right now and learning that it combos nicely with that means I can just get my vitamin and mineral fix sorted once in the morning and keep it routine.
DXM isn't an opiate tho.
edit: unless I'm mistaken the grapefruit juice potentiation is for oral ket dosing, for sure useful for some but mine's hitting membranes. I'll do more research to see if there's more to it though.

Perspective: Call for Re-evaluation of the Tolerable Upper Intake Level for Magnesium Supplementation in Adults
Abstract:
In 1997, the US Institute of Medicine (IOM) dietary reference intakes (DRI) Committee established a magnesium (Mg) tolerable upper intake level (UL) for adults of 350 mg/d from supplemental intake alone. Diarrhea was the limiting factor. The safety of oral Mg dietary supplements exceeding the UL is currently in debate. Increasing the UL may result in more Mg supplementation, decreasing the prevalence of undernutrition for this nutrient and thus providing additional protection against numerous chronic diseases. This perspective aims to show that more recent and comprehensive evidence-based data on the occurrence of diarrhea indicate that the Mg UL for adults should be re-evaluated. To update the literature base to re-evaluate setting the Mg UL, a PubMed search was conducted to identify intervention studies published between 1997 and 2022 that used single-ingredient Mg products reporting a priori diarrhea adverse events among adults. The Food and Drug Administration Center for Food Safety and Adverse Event Reporting System (CAERS) was also searched for adverse events caused by Mg supplementation. The PubMed search identified 10 studies, including 5 meta-analyses and 5 randomized controlled trials, that met the search criteria. Seven studies (Mg intakes of 128–1200 mg/d) found no significant differences in diarrhea occurrence between the intervention and control groups. One meta-analysis found only minor differences in gastrointestinal disturbances between groups given placebo versus 520 mg Mg/d, but withdrawals were not significantly different between groups. Another meta-analysis found that 3 of 13 studies (120–973 mg/d) reported diarrhea that led to study withdrawal, but the treatment arm was not specified in 2 studies. The CAERS search, when limited to single-ingredient suspect Mg products, found only 40 attributable cases of gastrointestinal adverse events. Only one-third of these 40 cases noted a complaint of diarrhea. These updated data indicate that doses above the current UL for Mg supplements can be consumed without adverse events.
(emphasis mine)
So it would seem that it is not insensible to experiment a little with a pill cutter and experiment with finding an individual's upper limit, if they were really desperate to find the UL for their own body. Of course your advice to simply take a couple of tablets is a pretty safe and easy guide. Though I'd caution to check the label, one of my tablets is practically at the adult upper limit on its own, so here's hoping my body is ready.
Hello, thank you so much for this post and to whoever put it in the sidebar for me to notice.
Does "megadosing" magnesium have any benefit, or is it just appropriate to take the upper end of the recommended daily intake?
I've heard of this only as far as helping with muscle stuff related to aging and whatnot, also as a self therapy for people quitting a bad weed habit.
I have been slacking on my mags.
OH
The question I really wanted to ask was, do you know if it potentiates other dissociatives? you mentioned DXM but I'm currently curious about a different one.
i have no interest in the horrific upscaled textures everyone seems to use
Patrician's choice. I think maybe screenshots and whatnot of the upscaled / retextured stuff is what initially turned me off of checking it out. I suspect the project was still far from complete when the earlier mentioned homie was spitting their venom.
damn CoQ only came out last year? My partner is big into roguelikes so I've definitely been hearing about it.
Gotta confess though i could have sworn it had a first person dungeon crawler type renderer per the atari era, must be getting my wires crossed. But yeah, bestie plays Caves of Qud, or did. Cogmind's probably their biggest consistent fave from the genre, the dev for it sounds like a genius to hear her talk about it.
Also I agree with your closing statement. It's basically how I feel I think? Also as someone who has "finish a fucking game" as a bucket list item, I do enjoy that we're having this era. Been writing a software renderer in some of my spare time.
I just.. was always out of the loop with mainstream gaming. Once in a while I'd pick up a Souls or a Skate 3 or some crapcom zombie shit, or whatever. But yeah the counterstrike warrior must remain disciplined so I often just ignored a lot of releases. In a way it's kind of cool, I can probably pirate and run everything I wanted to play but missed out on without even upgrading anything. I know some indy stuff has heavy requirements thanks to easy access to bleeding edge tech via the big engines and all that but I aint interested in squirrel with a strap or w/e. Looks like hot streamer-bait garbage to me.
Just low key pissed that even though I own it I haven't played cyberpunk yet cuz I'd really quite like to enjoy it at fairly decent graphics settings and I don't have the VRAM to have it look acceptable AND hold 60fps. Zero excuses for not playing Doom 2016. I have continued to impulse buy games even while I've stopped gaming lol. Finally broke the habit eventually. Thought I'd be able to play cyberpunk on my new-at-the-time laptop but it turned out I had made an error. Such limited VRAM.
Gonna probs build a rig to do LLM bullshit on at some point once I'm money making again though so that'll be waiting for me. Glad I didn't even try on day 1, even though I bought it pretty early after release. It's not even worth getting a lot of new games until the deathmarch driven delivered gold master then gets 6 months of patches.
*real daggerfall
revisionist!
jk jk, did you ever play the original such that you could provide insight? My long out of touch oldschool TES playing friend swore up down and sideways that the unity port was, well, there's no polite way to paraphrase almost any she ever said so I won't even try. I'm sure the engine's come leaps and bounds since then though.
I had a feeling it was unity just something about the walls even tho the textures don't look overcooked or anything.
I aint gonna tells you whut to do but yea. Maybe.
I think this is a very low risk place to be an internet commie but it's good to just stay on your toes imo.
Yep.
