Your app is the best. Hoping for volume button for comment navigation to be added one day, and then its basically perfect!

I mod a bunch. Only because I joined when Lemmy got it's big first wave, and the site was literally dead. My contribution was making communities for people to start posting in, because a ton of people simply don't want to moderate, or don't know how to create communities.

Within the first week I got a bunch of DMs from people asking to be mods, and I added all of them. I am not making communities to horde them. I am making them so people have places to post. To get the ball rolling.

You're downvoted, but honestly, I understand what you're saying.

My friends all think it's fine to text and drive, even in their employers vehicles. If there was a camera, guaranteed they'd stop texting and driving and become way safer.

People don't like it, obviously. I'd hate being watched. But there's no doubt it cuts down on accidents.

“Reposting” as in linking to their content? Most other companies pay Google for that service.

Google has apps that rehost content instead of linking to it. Also, many people only view the headline or the brief description, driving views away completely.

How are those companies going to drive views to their site? Do you think Microsoft and Meta are going to play ball? They aren’t. Do you expect Lemmy instances to pay whenever someone uploads a Canadian news article?

Like I said, search engines rely on content to work. You can already request your website be removed from Google, and prevent it from ever being crawled again. Imagine if everyone did this, Google would literally be useless. Google needs content to work. Google shows ads in their search engine, so they are getting paid by simply linking to your website.

Who said Meta and Microsoft wont play ball? Who said Lemmy is going to have to, is Lemmy a search engine? You're losing the point.

Our country is a literal South Park meme right now. We’re just waiting on the bubble gum and Bennigans coupons.

Ya, because people like you are okay with Google censoring and blocking news to Canadians for... some reason? Not sure why.

This is borderline fascist legislation. Restricting the flow of information on the internet so that Canadians are forced to turn to traditional mainstream media for their news. It was never about money.

Oh, there's the south park coming out. It's clear you've never created content online. What Google is doing is wrong, and Canadian journalists aren't wrong for wanting to be paid for views that are taken away. It's quite literally Google that is restricting the flow of information, so not sure why you're blaming Canada.

All Google needs to do is pay pennies per click, just like they do with everything else. They are being a greedy American company who will slowly learn that they can't treat the rest of the world like they do Americans. Look how great Google is. https://youtu.be/cA_cJAFF8Ss

Literally reads a chain of infuriating events for all to see why one might be angry. “Didn’t happen to meh”.

So why are they angry? What is happening to them, that isn't happening to me? Are they unable to request refunds? are they unable to buy Microsoft games outside of the Microsoft store? are they unable to buy the DRM free games from Steam?

They are pulling shit from years ago, despite me proving that Microsoft not only makes it easy to cancel, but they do refunds for unused days.

They hate Microsoft and Valve for not being able to "own your games", despite me showing that steam has plenty of DRM-free games, which doesn't require Steam or any authentication to play.

They are bringing up the past, despite Microsoft currently showing that they are dedicated to gaming, and providing a really good experience, as well as publishing their games on Steam instead of only their own store.

Why so angry? Why not look at the full picture, and judge based on current events? Microsoft may turn evil, and being skeptical is fine, but at what point are you beyond being skeptical?

Also, not sure why you gotta call me names. Have I called anyone else names this entire time? Can we just have a fucking discussion instead of turning into Reddit 2.0 with trolling and name calling? Jesus Christ.

Definitely the best approach. Use both, pick the one that works best for you. I use Firefox, but when I require a chromium browser, I load up Edge.

I prefer Connect!

I tried posting this comment already but it didn't go through? But I literally got a partial refund from Microsoft for cancelling my subscription. They refunded me for the unused days.

Not sure why you're so angry at Microsoft.

You blamed him for a bug in the OS because he didn't do things exactly how you think they should be done. You didn't give an opinion, you shifted blame.

Sorry you feel like having a discussion is toxic, but telling someone you stopped reading half way through and saying goodbye is, in fact, toxic behavior.

I'm fine not having a discussion with you further.

I'm sorry, but blaming him for breaking his os because he didn't check for updates first is ridiculous. The difference is that in Windows, the entire os wouldn't break if you decided to install steam first. If it did, you would blame Microsoft. Same with MacOS.

It's not his fault. It was a bug in the os, which is the fault of the pop_os! developers. You also can't blame him if the command he used was wrong, because Linux users love giving terminal commands to people without explanation and refusal to explain how it could also be done via the UI if preferred.

You know what the better reaction would be? To criticise the developers for allowing a bug like that to make it into production. To explain to the user that it happened to that it's not their fault, it was a rare bug, and was super unfortunate. Offer them an explanation, maybe suggest other distros that are more polished, and help them with their Linux journey.

Blaming them for something that wasn't their fault isn't welcoming, isn't going to want to make them want to stay, and will make sure they think twice before trying again.

Not sure why you're upset that he didn't want to use Fedora? That's the beauty of Linux, there are plenty of distros. That's what sets Linux apart. Maybe you don't want to use Ubuntu because of it's layout, or a different distro because it's red and you like green. No matter the reason, who cares? Guess what? I've had more issues with Fedora than any other distro I've ever used. If you asked me, I'd say Linux Mint is the best ootb experience, and I'm sure someone else will tell me that Linux Mint fucked their wife and killed their cat and that I'm a stupid racist for thinking that.

Edit: also want to make it clear that windows and MacOS both have their own issues, some of which are really bad. No OS is perfect, and I think we should stop being weirdly defensive over a damn operating system. If one of them was leagues better, multiple OSes wouldn't exist.

Okay. I don't see the need to be a negative Nancy and be upset at everyone all because the company has the potential to screw you over. Microsoft nor Valve are being bad guys right now. They are doing wonders for PC gaming, and as a gamer, I'm really excited.

I'll change my thoughts and opinions as needed, but for now, I'll enjoy the small victories in life.

Also you do realize that steam allows developers to upload DRM free games to steam, right? Where you can copy the .exe and play the game without ever installing steam? Not sure why you're upset over steam or think they are a required DRM.

I don't know if I would trust that, though.

Google's authorized repair centers have diagnostic tools and software that allows very deep access to the phone. Something that a random maintenance mode wouldn't hide.

When you take your Pixel in for repair, they force you to factory reset it, because they take privacy serious. They don't want anyone to have access to your data through their repair tools.

I'd actually be very skeptical about this if I had a Samsung device. Is there proof that this mode cannot be accessed by their repair tools?
