The article linked actually says in every instance it was a double whammy of a concern about caffeine, but that the actual reason was because they did not have bilingual nutritional information on the can.

I was playing on an emulator many years ago as a teenager and I had done nearly everything except fight Lavos. There was a thunderstorm outside, and wouldn’t you know it, it killed the power and corrupted my save file. I’ve start over once or twice, but I still to this day have not actually beat the game. 😞
