In the referenced scenario they had to borrow a phone to call you.
Presumably their phone is out of battery, broken, stolen, or they're in another country without service.
I'm sure police would be very comfortable giving their gun to a stranger for money instead of putting it in their trunk.
Can you legally make them work for you for free?
