If I had to guess, I'd say they're trying to maximize their market cap. It's no secret that they're looking for a buyer and/or eyeing and IPO. The more profitable they can seem before that, the more money Huffman can walk away with.
At this point, I'm just amused that you went on a screed about downvotes after doing it yourself -- that it bugs you this much when it accomplishes nothing is kinda funny. Downvotes don't impact your account in any way; it's just there for looks.

That'd be my suggestion. I can't imagine that the average airport security goon is going to check the reported size of the drive against the hardware specs as part of a normal inspection.
