I agree. Albeit there are some advantages, of course, I am 100% certain that in the aggregate, it will make people more stupid and gullible.
It is sort of obvious when you engage with the thought, and seek it to its natural conclusion:

Yup. Last time I tried it, it semi-worked, doubt that it works in 25+, and even less in 30+.
Not same as OP, but the reason why I do not use Github is because I do not want my data on what is essentially a Microsoft service. Especially, if I already self-host other services.
Although, I am aware not everyone can afford or wants to self-host, yet in my use case, it was just a matter of just installing NC on an already existing setup.
Tried doing this and albeit it works, I ended up going back to the NC Notes app, which granted, is not as good as Obsidian.
Literally our metabolic system. You eat materials like minerals that are dead and your body absorbs them and turns those into a part of you.
That's the neat part, you don't.
Albeit not for everyone, self-hosting is the way to go. Nextcloud is where is at, even with its quirks. Also, instead of going to YT directly, I use RSS to keep up with my channels. In my case, FreshRSS for those and for everything else it applies. Watch them with Freetube.
As far as full on YT replacements? Use Rumble and Odysee as many YT content creators are creating back up channels on those platforms. The point is that YT is going to get even more stupid with the ads so it is great to options.
Thanks for the share, didn't know about this. :-)

But, why am I not surprised?
I get what you mean. However, I am coming from a perspective of understanding the larger scope of what this article is getting at.
Case in point, you yourself, how often do you see or hear, say, Lithium ponds in any EV commercials or discussed anywhere? Furthermore, it has been well established since the beginning that these higher regions where lithium is mined do not have a lot of water due to elevations and low precipitation. That means that a lot of waterworks and thus environmental damage will be required in order to pump the water there at some point. Again, not something that you will ever hear getting a lot of attention. Thus my point is that I dislike these lies by omission that give people a different take on these technologies and how they are not as environmentally friendly as they are sold. In fact, quite the opposite. Since in the other end, 95% of batteries and their highly toxic materials go straight into landfills.
Just like you do not hear about the 'artisan mines' that mine for lithium which are essentially, either slave labour, or hard-labour that have a propensity to hire even children to get exploited and exposed to highly toxic chemicals. When was the last time you heard of this in Apple commercials that push their green tech?
He said it was an affront to life itself.
