ArticleMany Russian nationals continue to arrive in the United States after fleeing their country for various reasons including the ongoing war with Ukraine.

Most are securing CBP One appointments to get access into the U.S. at ports of entry such as San Ysidro’s PedWest.

According to attorney Curtis Morrison, who represents hundreds of Russian asylum seekers, the Biden Administration has been denying Russians an opportunity to seek asylum while detaining and deporting them.

“Immigration and Customs Enforcement has made a decision to blanket detain all migrants who are Russian asylum seekers.”

Morrison says this violates a policy called the 2009 Parole Directive.

“They are being subjected to a blanket policy that they are applying to Russian asylum seekers even if there’s nothing Russian about them, they may not even be from Russia, but from a country next to Russia or maybe even speak Russian.”

Morrison added that his clients, and many other Russian nationals, are victims of discrimination.

It’s not what the law is, this is a blanket policy they are applying to people based on their country of origin despite following proper procedures for entering the United States, seeking asylum, and not posing a flight and public safety, or national security risk.”

According to Morrison, most of the Russians are ending up at the Otay Mesa Detention Center in San Diego or a similar facility in Louisiana.

“You can go to the Border in Tijuana and see who is coming across, you can see they are not all Russians, but when you go to detention facilities, especially in Louisiana, you see the majority of detainees are Russian.”

Morrison says that number is in excess of 50 percent.

“They’re not coming here to cause the U.S. harm, this policy doesn’t make sense and it’s unlawful.”

Since many Russian asylum seekers have left their country as a way to avoid the war with Ukraine, being sent back would be perilous, according to Morrison.

“They don’t like what Putin is doing and here they show up at our border because they’re trying to escape the same thing we say is wrong so why are we detaining them?”

Morrison expects to be in court early next month for a hearing that will have huge implications for his clients and other migrants who may not be Russian.

“The Biden administration is removing them very quickly back to Russia, they do not want to be forced to participate in an invasion of Ukraine,” he said. “If we lose this, the Trump administration will have new tools at their disposal to mistreat migrants based on their nationality.”

Each year, on November 20th, the Green Party of the United States joins in honoring and recognizing Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR). TDOR is a worldwide event with the goal to raise awareness about discrimination and violence directed against transgender, intersex, non-binary, and gender-nonconforming people.

Hate crimes and murders of our LGBTQIA+ community members largely go unreported by the mainstream media. TDOR helps raise public awareness of the very real violence transgender, intersex, non-binary and gender-nonconforming people face every day. It is a day of public mourning to honor the lives of these people who might otherwise be forgotten. TDOR reminds cisgender people that transgender people are their children, parents, friends and lovers, and gives allies a chance to step forward and stand in vigil.

The last two years have been a particularly dark time for transgender, non-binary, intersex, and gender-nonconforming people. In 2023, 550 anti-LGBTQIA+ bills introduced into state houses across the country, more than 85 of which were passed into law. This trend continued into 2024, where over 500 additional anti-LGBTQIA+ bills were introduced, and over 40 passed into law across 14 states.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s annual hate crime data for 2023, released just last month showed dramatic rises in anti-LGBTQIA+ violence, including an additional 13% increase over the previous year's high in anti-transgender violence. Of the five highest months for anti-transgender hate crimes, all five are in the last 3 years, with three occurring just last year.

While the parties of War and Wall Street facilitate the erosion of our fundamental human rights, the Green Party strongly maintains that we cannot compromise on issues of life or death for LGBTQIA+ communities. We believe that addressing the deep issues facing LGBTQIA+ communities today require deep solutions. We stand for continuing the struggle for true equality in every way including:

*A comprehensive National Health Plan including full access to mental, dental, hearing and vision services.

  • A healthcare system that will not discriminate coverage based upon sexuality, gender, ethnicity, nationality or income.

  • A guaranteed living wage and an end to homelessness, which disproportionately affects LGBTQIA+ youth.

  • Support for LGBTQIA+ friendly K-12 educational materials and free education at all levels through college.

  • Ending senseless mass incarceration and the War on Drugs, which also disproportionately targets queer youth — in particular LGBTIA+ youth of color.

The Green Party of the United States has been at the forefront of the Queer Liberation Movement since the party's founding. Our very first national platform in 2000 called for LGBTQIA+ equality. In 2004, when many prominent Democrats were still vocally against same-sex marriage, Jason West, then Green Party Mayor of New Paltz, New York, was arrested after performing dozens of same-sex marriages. Greens continue to stand unwaveringly for equal legal protections, and we continue to highlight the long-overdue struggle to add sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, to the existing Civil Rights Act.

While the duopoly rubber stamps bills restricting LGBTQIA+ people's access to healthcare, legal services, sports, voting, and more, the Green Party of the United States keeps up the fight for our rights. No other national political party matches the Green Party's commitment to the liberation of all people, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or sex. 🌈 We rely on the support of people like you to continue that fight every day.

In Solidarity, Daniel Bumbarger National Lavender Caucus Co-Chair

P.S. The National Lavender Green Caucus (NLGC) represents the LGBTQIA+ members of the Green Party. If you are eligible, please consider joining the NLGC and help our party grow.

Someone in media claiming their entire staff waw wiped out by an AI company called passion Q.Ai

For context I work production in local news. Recently there’s been developments in AI driven systems that can do 100% of the production side of things which is, direct, audio operate, and graphic operate -all of those jobs are all now gone in one swoop. This has apparently been developed by the company Q ai.

For the last decade I’ve worked in local news and have garnered skills I thought I would be able to take with me until my retirement, now at almost 30 years old, all of those job opportunities for me are gone in an instant. The only person that’s keeping their job is my manager, who will overlook the system and do maintenance if needed. That’s 20 jobs lost and 0 gained for our station.

We were informed we are going to be the first station to implement this under our company. This means that as of now our entire production staff in our news station is being let go. Once the system is implemented and running smoothly then this system is going to be implemented nationwide (effectively eliminating tens of thousands of jobs.) There are going to be 0 new jobs built off of this AI platform.

There are people I work with in their 50’s, single, no college education, no family, and no other place to land a job once this kicks in. I have no idea what’s going to happen to them. This is it guys. This is what our future with AI looks like. This isn’t creating any new jobs this is knocking out entire industry level jobs without replacing them.

New documents released by Canada’s Department of National Defence have put to bed the rumors of aliens shot down near Lake Huron.

According to CTV News, a Canadian news outlet, an unidentified flying object was shot down by a United States F-16 fighter jet on Feb. 12, 2023. It was reported to be octagonal with “strings hanging off.”

The jet fired twice at the object, striking it once before it crashed into the lake in Canadian waters. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police worked with both the American and Canadian Coast Guard to search for the object but the effort was eventually called off.

Documents requested by CTV News indicate the wreckage was found on the Lake Huron shoreline about three weeks later, but that was never announced.

An email reportedly sent between a senior official with RCMP and a military official said the object was made by a company that sells “weather monitoring equipment.”

“Officials characterized it as a suspected balloon that did not pose a military threat, but could have interfered with domestic air traffic,” CTV reported.

The Lake Huron wreckage was one of three “UFO incidents” in a matter of weeks over the U.S. and Canada

Iain Boyd, the director of the Center for National Security Initiatives at the University of Colorado, told the news outlet that he suspects both Canadian and American government officials kept the findings quiet to avoid embarrassment.

“To have expended significant military time and resources to shoot down benign objects does not look good, even though there may have been many factors we are still unaware of,” Boyd told CTV News. “I am not surprised that the Canadian government did not share more information about the Lake Huron debris.”
