The only thing they block is the eyes, nothing is obscured otherwise, their own demos on their website show that.

I personally won't be wasting my money, if I want to obscure my face I'll wear a face mask and color contacts like I already do.

I've said for many years that most of history outside of regional squabbles can be boiled down to "Watch out for those white people over there"

I'm pan and a slut, but I appreciate the sentiment meow-hug

If you're interested in going that route, I'd start by following a few pages like "Friendly Comrade Ancom Mermaid" and "Catmin's anticapitalist treehouse of solidarity", shortly after interacting with those pages your algorithm will start suggesting the right types of groups for you, especially if those types of pages are the only thing you follow. I'd also recommend searching for some queer allyship groups (ideally run by queer people) to further tune your algo in that direction.

I hate to admit it, but when all your friends are gay communists Facebook can be pretty lit, I found most of my online hangouts through a bunch of support groups there and shitposting groups

Forced Snaps is a big one. If you're not familiar, Snap is Canonical's proprietary alternative to Appimage and Flatpak. While the Snap Store is open source and can be forked or modified as needed, the backend is completely closed source, which has vexed many members of the Open Source community.

While the distribution itself is currently pretty solid, they've made questionable decisions in the past like including an amazon search function in their fork of gnome (Unity). Snap can be removed by a skilled user or someone well versed in search-fu, but their choice to have it installed by default, the be the default for package management, and to inject snaps in place of deb packages when installed via Apt, are all big red-flags given that nobody can see what is in those snaps til they're installed except for canonical.

Pronouns in usernames is WHY I decided to stay on hexbear instead of jumping from instance to instance with the great reddit exodus of '23.

I'm still learning to interact with y'all, but I appreciate how tight knit the community is and how y'all interact with each other.

On that though, I genuinely can't see how people'd think this is a right wing instance pretending to be left wing, it's like they haven't even looked at the instance beyond a cursory glance

I mean, all I can say in response to that is that I know what government cheese tastes like.

SAME, thigh high compression socks ftw!

But yeah, like, I AM an Internet cat girl but I don't want people assuming that about me, it feels dirty for some reason

Blahaj made me realize how much I prefer just mostly lurking hexbear. Their comment sections feel... Toxic? Idk, hexbear's comment sections feel more genuine (except where the irony is turned up to 11, and that's pretty easy to identify)

As a thigh high cat-girl, I really don't appreciate that it's turned us into a stereotype. It's genuinely upsetting. Only my online friends and the folks I'm close to were supposed to know that about me and now it's the first thing anyone assumes.
