I'm flying out to Budapest on Thursday, this will be my first race attended in person. I'm very excited!
Well, unexpected, but not shocked. Some big questions come to mind immediately.
- Do you think Nyck got a fair chance? He's underperformed, but wasn't given long
- Will Ricciardo be able to get any results in that car? Has he gotten over the problems that led to his McLaren exit?
- What could this mean for next year's RB/AT lineups?
This dude supposedly knows the de Vries family. But I'll believe it only when we get proper motorsport press reporting it.
edit: Telegraaf.nl reporting it. Ricciardo to replace de Vries link
edit2: Chris Medland says multiple sources confirm
edit3: It's real! https://scuderia.alphatauri.com/en/scuderia-alphatauri-welcomes-back-daniel-ricciardo/
I'm gutted for Oscar missing out on the podium, just got unlucky with the pitstop/safety car. But that's Formula 1. Still, getting P4 in your rookie year is a great achievement, I think he's a real talent. And brilliant for Lando, that was excellent defending to hold off Lewis on much faster tyres.
Red Bull getting 11 in a row is just crazy, I think the count might grow. Uninspiring drive by Perez, did what he had to do and dragged the car up the field, but he should be finishing 2nd every single race in that car. I think he's badly underperforming.
And Ferrari ... lol. 4th and 5th to 9th and 10th. Awful day for them.
I'm not sure if I should post the video, but having watched it, it's extremely similar to the crash that killed Anthoine Hubert. Looks further along the track - at the start of the Kemmel straight - but very similar.
Accident description
It's not clear how (very bad weather conditions, lots of spray/fog), but his car spins into the middle of the track, stops fully sideways/perpendicular to the track, then is T-boned by another car.Absolutely tragic.
Only 30%? Seems pretty much the majority these days
