I dual boot with win 11, I do so for programming purposes, not gaming. I read online that the game straight up blocks Linux on all fronts (typical EA). So, I booted into win 11 and launched the beta. It still refused to start and complained that secure boot was "disabled". Booted into BIOS and it was enabled, but not active. I had to reset the keys to the windows default keys to be able to play this game. This is a no go for me. Not giving them my money until they stop this bullshit. Just wanted to let everyone know the situation so far.

I've taken a break from nonfiction for a while (finished lotr and read a whole bunch of Stephen king). Now I want to go back to reading nonfiction, but I want something that will pull me in another world of facts I didn't know about. Be it political, sociology.... anything really. I don't know if "facts" is the word I'm looking for here (English is my second language). Can I say "discoveries"? Things you've found through the book that shocked you? Hope that makes sense.

I'm asking because I got an update for steam today on my HT console that is running Bazzite OS and I checked the changelog, and some of the fixes pertained to some "non-deck" devices then they went on to list ROG Ally x and onexplayer... Etc. Is it now official? Does that mean I can now grab steamOS and install it on my onexplayer?

Hi all, I have tried everything, and now I am coming here for help. Hopefully someone can tell me what's happening here. So, I have this older pc that I have converted into a steam console, first with Bazzite and now with Chimera OS. Both work very nicely, but the one issue that persisted on both distros is that when I put the pc to sleep from game mode (press xbox button>power>sleep) then wake it up, the screen is not receiving a signal, it not even a black screen, just no signal. I would have to force reboot it to be able to get in. Nothing works. I can't even get into a tty screen or do anything. It is connected to a samsung tv 65mu8000 via HDMI cable. I have UHD color input enabled for that input, just to give more details.

I have tried disabling the wake up animation like some folks suggested and that didn't do anything. I have tried disabling the display core like some other searches suggested by putting amdgpu.dc=0 in modprob.d in its own file. I have tried blocking the intel iGPU, even though this CPU doesn't have one. Nothing works. It has an intel core i7 5930k and an AMD RX 6600. I would appreciate any help or suggestions Thank you

And omfg!!! I'm amazed and blown away. I have this old PC that I've had since 2016. Replaced the old 1080Ti that died with an RX6600. Connected it to my TV in the basement and installed Bazzite OS HTPC on it.

A friend of mine has over 2500 games on his steam and gave me access through this family sharing feature. Man, I'm amazed. I didn't know that steam mode has built in upscaling where all the games I play are now running ~50 - 60 FPS on medium to high settings on this 4k TV. It's like having an actual console but with more games and better graphics. For controller, I got this Gamesir cyclone 2 and it's freaking fantastic. Just trying to figure out how to wake the "console" using the controller. I don't think I'll ever touch my PS4 pro ever again.

I did have one issue where Bazzite wouldn't wake up after suspend, but fixed that by disabling runtime power management for AMDGPU by Adding options amdgpu runpm=0 to /etc/modprobe.d/amdgpu.conf and disabling the wake up animation for steam mode.

Hi all, I have an HDR capable monitor, HDR enabled in KDE plasma, but I still can't get some games to let me switch on the HDR toggle. Every time I turn it on in the game, it says something along the lines of "your hardware must support HDR" or some shit like that. After some online searching, I was able to enable it on ONE game in the heroic games launcher with (I think) a launch command? Where I threw there a "--HDR" and some other strings in there after enabling gamescope (this is where shit starts to confuse the hell out of me), then the game let me actually toggle HDR on. I can never do that on Steam. I am trying to play Indiana Jones and the great circle and it says the same. Same with Resident evil 4.

How do you do it? Is there a guide or something to follow? Is it like per game? Like some games allow it and others don't? Also, and most importantly, how the hell does gamescope work? On heroic, there are things like "Game width, game height, upscale width and upscale height". On Lutris, there is a cleaner way with dropdown menus where you choose a "Output resolution" and a "Game resolution" resolutions. What are those? Which is which? Sorry for the very long post, and I appreciate any help Thank you

Hi all. I am getting sick of the stick drift on the Xbox and PlayStation controllers, so I've started looking into 3rd party controllers with hall effect. Two kept popping up, flydigi and 8bitdo. If anyone owns one of these, how's their support on Linux? Do they work out of the box? Just plug in the dongle and you're good to go? Are they stable? I don't ever use any other buttons than the main ones, so I think won't need their software. Unless even the main ones needs programming! Do they? Thanks in advance

New refugee here. Ran away from the chaos that is "new gaming".

I've set up RPCS3, PSX2 and Duckstation (sorry Xbox and other consoles folks. I'm from a country where the PlayStation was the dominant force) and I've been having so much fun. What brought me back is the realization of how crappy most new games are. The infinite chase after those "shadows", "lights", and "details" has killed gaming. All of this made the hardware requirements really high, and good hardware is really expensive. Also, there is no joy in new games (at least for me). It's just all the same.

I've been going through a catalog of old games I've missed out on in my youth, and oh boy! Games were really good back then.

Edit: I welcome all the suggestions if you would like to suggest some good older games.

This is getting out of hand. The other day I saw the requirements for "Hell is Us" game and it's ridiculous. My RX6600 can't play anything anymore. I've downloaded several PS3 ROMs and now I'm playing old games. So much better than this insanity. This is probably what I'm going to be doing now, play old games.

I don't want to say I made a mistake, but I buy everything used, and I have scored a good deal on two 27" 4k monitors from Facebook marketplace. Got both monitors for $120.

They're $800 on Amazon used. Great monitors and I love 4k. I also bought an RX6600 AMD GPU for $100 from Facebook. It was almost new. The owner upgraded and wanted to get rid of it. My whole build was very cheap compared to what I see some folks get (genuinely happy for those who can afford it. Life is too short. Enjoy it while you can).

I can't afford these high end GPUs, but now very few games work on low settings and I'd get something like 20 FPS max. My friend gave me access to his steam library and I wanted to play Indiana Jones the other day, and it was an "omfg, wtf is this horrible shit" moment.

I don't regret buying any of these, but man it sucks that the games I want to play barely even work.
So, now I'm emulating and it's actually pretty awesome. I've missed out on so many games in my youth so now I'm just going to catch up on what I've missed out on. Everything works in 4k now and I'm getting my full 60FPS and I'm having so much fun.

I dont know if the title makes much sense, but I'll explain as much as I can here to (hopefully) make it make sense. I want to report this issue to the kde team, but I wanted to come here first to ask for opinions on how to report it, especially the wording/technicality, so I don't confuse them when they look at the report.

When I install anything through wine/proton, the apps on the screen lose their focus/or their focus becomes all messed up. For instance, when I right click on dolphin or the terminal, the right click menu is now showing behind the app and I can only see some of it (when I click close to the edge of the app). If I have a browser that is maximized, I won't be able to see the menu at all, as it's behind the app.

When I bring up an app into focus from the panel, it shows behind whatever app that is already on the screen. Clicking on the app that is already on the screen still clicks the app I brought up from the panel as if it were in the front. So the app that I brought up from the panel is the one in focus and is clickable, but it's hiding behind the one already on the screen. I'm so sorry if this doesn't make sense, I'm trying my best to explain it. Hope this makes sense. If not, please ask questions and I'll answer. This issue has been consistent across distros and a Wayland exclusive one. I do have 4k monitors if that makes any difference and I run all AMD.

I can only fix it by either changing to a new workspace, logout/login or reboot.
