Godot is an incredibly mature and actively developed open source game engine. You cannot start with something better, not without weird licensing compromises or financial contracts if you make enough money your game using their engine.

https://docs.godotengine.org/en/stable/community/tutorials.html

There are plenty of resources. The structure of development is very unique, but also very intuitive, so please don't get discouraged if anything seems new.

On a personal note, I implore you to refrain from using ChatGPT and learning to program things yourself. The tutorials are very thorough, and the graphical interface is thorough and robust enough that you will probably be programming less than you think, and of course with time it gets easier. Documentation is built in and searchable. The Godot Scripting language is Python like, which is a very easy language to learn.

The only tips really is to read through all the tutorials and make as many games as you can think of. Start small and stay small. All big systems are just tiny systems strung together.

Do not worry about making your own assets, unless you are an artist already.

Lastly, have fun. You are making games after all. If you are ever feeling stuck, it can be useful to force a new perspective: https://schellgames.com/art-of-game-design/

I think the algorithms are not quite doing what you expect, on top of server delays or whatever.

The way I am set up, I start in ALL and sort by HOT. If the post start to feel too familiar I will go by active, then new.

What I feel works the best however is to subscribe to all the communities that you are interested in (don't be precious) and you will find that the subscriptions page has the content you want. It is nice, they don't get lost, or you can jump into a single community and see all they have.

The most useful way to use lemmy of course is to post content.

I adore that website, and its sibling No Tech Magazine.

Yes! I keep hearing about how people post from across platforms, but I finally see an example of how to do it. Nice!

You are right, it is brilliant. The hegemony over a word or phrase is ridiculous, and it made discovery a pain in the ass. I love how federation naturally resolves the name clashing issue, letting multiple communities live side by side.

There is no competition, just different levels of participation.

I will definitely look into those things if I run into troubles!

Thank you for the encouragement! I am inching my way towards building a server, and I am thankful for all the tips and suggestions I got.

I am starting to think that if email is the hardest to self-host, then perhaps more people should try it. It is worthy to take regain indepedence and autonomy of technology, even if it seen as a lost cause.

Yeah, I hope to get something running soon, just so I can say I did it.

That is the thing, I am willing to pay for email, because then the incentives are real to the provider to follow best practices for privacy and quality of life, but the pricing blows up too quickly due to to features I will never use. I need something more granular.

I am also looking at Disroot and Posteo, which I like because the have hardened ethical principles driving their services, and that is worth supporting.

Hell yes, I love the enthusiasm! I just got a domain, which is giving me 3 months of email, so that is great. I feel like Tutanota is the most honest email service when it comes to advertising privacy, and they do some stuff that Proton definitely does not, like make recovery impossible without a key, and use no other method.

My next step is to get a VPS, and Hetzner is the name I have seen pop up the most. I will use that.

Thank you!

This is so encouraging! For sure it takes a level of technical proficiency and experience, but any technology that has been around for decades has been simplified and automated in one way or another. In retrospect, it is ridiculous to think that all these email providers could exist if they could not overcome the stranglehold of Google and Microsoft, so it must be possible for individuals to do it too,

There is an undefinable sense of freedom when you stop concerning yourself with gender roles and expectations. Our population is beyond the possibility of extinction, any harm is self-made. The universe can hold all they ways a person can explore themselves and the world.

I want to explore all of my humanity, and explore the full humanity of others as well.

I present cis male, and I am. I am comfortable in my expression and I love to wear all kinds of colors, and be experimental with my mannerisms.

I might be bi, but have yet to explore that part of me. I find all genders attractive, but I have only been with cis women.

Like @Denvil I support everyone!
