I got my export a few days ago (hadn't been on reddit to notice the notification) so it took just under 15 days to arrive.

Thursday’s patch is the product of recent penetration testing work that the Mozilla Foundation funded, Mastodon cofounder and CTO Renaud Chaput told Ars. He said a firm called Cure53 performed the pentesting and that the code fixes were developed by the several-person team inside the Mastodon nonprofit.

This is good to see, although it's worrying that such a serious vulnerability went unspotted for this long. At least, I hope it wasn't spotted; maybe some bad actor's made subtle use and all our bases are belong to them.

What did you think about the Save 418 Movement? Were you involved in it in any way?

I think the whole Fediverse is struggling with Reddit and Twitter sending a lot of new users their way.

I joined too early and stopped looking as there was so little content. In fact, when Lemmy started becoming well-known, I forgot I even had an account and made a new one elsewhere. Luckily, my password manager has a better memory!

I don't think we need that at all. Each instance can look after its own hosting and funding.

A centralised pot is asking for trouble - what about theft or corruption? What happens about disagreements like defederation? Seems a lot more trouble than it's worth.

For me I tend to see the wrong post sometimes when I go to an old Lemmy tab after being on different Lemmy tabs. If I hit refresh then I'll get my original post back, but then half the time I go and find the mysterious post because I want to read it now I got a taste.

By that logic, Banksy's Napalm is also advertising, but I don't think every glimpse of a logo or mascot works in a brand's favour.

This is closer to fair-use satire than advertising (although not that close to either). It's funny because McD is somewhat opposite to the gym, and that's not advertising for the golden arches.

I wish I replied earlier, but I didn't realise at the time that we were witnesses to history being made. This was the top post across all of Lemmy this week, and it'll be creating ~~lore~~ memes that will outlive us all.
