You are correct. By the TNG era site-to-site transport had become reliable enough that it could be used as needed, but having a pad at one end or the other (or both) of a transport was still safer. It was also more energy-efficient, though that's less of a concern.

One can hope, but while Uncharted: A Thief's End and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart came to PC, the remasters of their previous games have not. It seems unlikely this will be any different.

G-Police was the poster child for new texture streaming effects over the AGP bus. It was one of the first games (if not the absolute first) to feature animated billboards.

There was also a Playstation version which may be easier to find.
