When Ivan I became a ruler of Moscow, Rus had already been conquered by Mongols for 80 years.

Kiev lost its political importance long before Mongols, when Andrey Bogolyubsky of Vladimir-Suzdal captured Kiev in 1149 and just went back home instead of staying to rule there. He later led the sack of Kiev in 1169, ending the Kievan Rus period.

I'm thinking of Sabo-Tabby Kitty. But I'm also non-USian, so nobody understands the tune anyway.

When you search for "Gentoo", you sometimes get results for a real estate company with the same name. Name collisions are nothing to fear about, unless the name is a registeted trademark in multiple countries.

Keep CoMaps.

I like this name: it's cute, short and memorable. I also like that 'co-' can have multiple meanings (cooperation, coexisting, community, carbon monoxyde).

IRC is actually somewhat federated, as one network can consist of multiple servers hosted by different people.

Guess I would not want to maintain a webpage so web servers are nixed

You could still use WebDAV. It's simple and works with most file managers.

Synopsis

(trying to be neutral here)

Hazycora[^1] was informally hired to work on Loops web UI. Then Daniel[^2] posted about his idea to launch a video ads network for Loops (which he latter admitted was a joke), and Hazycora commented that such posts hurt people's trust in him.

This was followed by an avalanche of mutual accusations, which I shall not dwell, as a result Hazycora no longer works for Loops.

Consequences

  • Accounts using "hazy.gay" email domain were banned on loops.video with a fake dubstep-posting Kamala Harris account as an excuse. This also breaks guest browsing on loops.gay.
  • Hazycora's username on loops.video was forcibly changed from single-letter "h" to "hazellll".
  • Disassemblies of the Loops client were published on GitHub.
  • Hazycora says she has got more than $500 in donations in the past two days; Daniel says his following count is growing, and hers are going down; both claims need verification.

Footnotes

[^1]: Admin of besties.house and git.gay. Created loops.gay, the first web client for Loops. [^2]: Daniel Supernault (aka "dansup"). Creator of Pixelfed (federated Instagram clone), Loops (federated TikTok clone), FediDB, fediverse.info, pubkit.net and yet unreleased Sup messenger.

Two polls considering Gridcoin development were recently published by grctest, you can find their proposal here: https://github.com/gridcoin-community/Gridcoin-Tasks/issues/268

Putting aside concerns about active use of LLMs in creating this proposal (I think Gentoo was right when they banned all contributions created with the assistance of generative AI), let's focus on economy.

First important thing thing to emphasize: cryptocurrency is not money or currency, it is a non-financial asset, like gold. This is consensus among mainstream and post-Keynesian economists, as far as I know.

Suppose there is a gridgold mine (the only in the world) that produces 37,600 units of gridgold daily. There is another unused mine nearby, where mining is less difficult, and because of that it can yield 5 times more gridgold than the current mine with same amount of work.

So what happens after the switch to the latter mine?

Economic actors (more precisely, a rational part of them) will act on their inflation expectations. This means selling their gridgold savings and not buying any gridgold until some normalization. The consequences will be decrease in demand for gridgold and falling market price.

Savings of those who haven't had a chance to sell their gridgold will be burnt by inflation.

I think it's the opposite of what the Gridcoin community would want.

Admin team of LGBTQIA.Social Mastodon instance received abuse email from Russian censorship agency, where they demanded to remove an account. The account in question represented a small group that ran a collaborative blog for LGBTQIA youth and adults in Russia.

Shortly after refusal to comply with agency's demands, the instance was blocked and is now unreachable from Russia.

All previous blocks of Fediverse instaces in Russia were related to hosting CSAM.
