I'm a guilt by guilt kinda guy. Fear of minorities is bad.
Cowbee
Neither malice nor fear are good when directed at minority populations, and pretending one is better than the other when they breed each other is again a meaningless centrist take.
I'm flattered that you think I sound cool, though 😎
I'm not sure you want to take a middle ground between being transphobic and being a trans ally, as that's just transphobia. The transphobes should, in fact, be shunned and demonized for being bigots.
Homophobia ain't cool either.
I'm not ignoring it, hence why I said the presence of some systems doesn't necessitate the presence, and thus all consequences of unrelated systems.
Their point was that because Communist governments have committed genocides, Communism itself requires Genocide. This is absolutely false, nothing about collective ownership of property in a Stateless, Classless, Moneyless society necessitates that the collective itself be evil, hence why I made that point.
It's fully possible to make coherent points against Communism without resorting to pure ad hominem and mysticism, and I'm fine with people making those points, as discussion adds value.
That's more of a centrist take. It makes perfect sense for trans allies to demonize transphobes, for example. Nobody is advocating against constructive conversation, but sometimes views are genuinely rooted in malice and thus cannot be reasoned with.
Yes and no.
Better than recent presidents? Yes. Actually a leftist? No, Biden is far from actually being a leftist. This more points to electoralism being harm reduction for leftists, not advocacy.
The executive isn't a dictatorship, and that's another reason why meaningful change must happen at the grassroots level, not via electoralism. The system itself is designed to be extremely stable, and thus slow to change, if at all.
The Democrats and the Republicans are both on the side of Capital, the Republicans just want fascism as well. The left is the side that is demonized by the media just as much as the fascists.
You're on Lemmy.
I honestly disagree a bit with that. 1 was a dark comedy, 2 was half dark comedy half absurd references, 3 was bleak absurdism, New Vegas was back to dark comedy, then 4 went to less dark absurdism.
In general, the classics and New Vegas better carried the serious tone, while 4 was pretty close to pure parody. Like 2, 3 seems split in half, while 1, NV, and 4 were more consistent in tone, though not necessarily with each other.
To be fair, Fallout tries to maintain seriousness. It takes itself very seriously, even the humorous aspects, it doesn't point itself out as absurd.
In my opinion, it better highlights the commentary the series is making by grounding itself in reality and using a sort of dark comedy to draw attention to the points it makes.
I think it's because Fallout, as a world, is supposed to be an alternate version of our world, whereas this looks decidedly "Fallout." Once it becomes far enough removed from our timeline, much of the commentary and worldbuilding ceases to be as relatable as before.
Just my 2 cents.
I understand the mechanisms perfectly well, you're just arguing that lighter transphobia and homophobia should be acceptable and shouldn't be demonized. Transphobia and homophobia should be demonized.
