One article about that topic that finally mentions it: There is a descriptive sentence is the resolution that exempts devices with water proofing from it.

As I saw in the past, there were lots of hype posts and what manufacturer X, Y or Z is going to do now. Most of the high-end phones already have an IP-rating, haven't they? Well, there is the answer. They just keep what they have been selling and it already complies with this new resolution.

It's the radar, lidar, cameras only story that's coming up every few months for the last years. A few years ago Tesla went cameras only to save money, assuming it would be good enough. Other manufacturers/cars have a higher certification for autonomous driving but they are also using more sensors than just cameras.

Man this sounds terrible. But the banging noises will probably stop some time today. The 4 days of oxygen will end very soon.

I'd say it's unlikely they would make banging noises if they were somewhere on the surface, waiting to be found. It's more of a thing if you're stuck underwater and cannot use flare gun, radio or similar equipment.

A few days ago an article explained there are lots of structures around the wreck where such a submarine could get stuck. That would also explain why the sub is not at the surface, as they can just drop weights and it will automatically emerge to the surface.

Instead they hear banging noises underwater.

I remember NYTimes was blocked in the past for me as well.

Someone recommended me a Firefox addon https://gitlab.com/magnolia1234/bypass-paywalls-firefox-clean and it seems to do its job.

Would be nice as journalist to be insistent on inquiring the duration of the dive so far.

They write it's missing – but it is obvious where it is.

They write contact was lost, but it is unknown when. This seems to be the whole point of such a news. Was contact lost 4 hours ago or 4 days ago? Contact lost 4h ago would probably be all fine, as they mention the dive tour takes around 8 hours. 4 days ago would mean they are all dead, as oxygen lasts that long according to the article.

To give an insight how it looks outside of the US/in Europe:

Amazon does not (or cannot) tell the contractors what the drivers should wear or how the vehicles look. Usually it's a plain white van, sometimes even a rental company logo on its side. The drivers just wear whatever they found in their closet.

So it's way more visual that they are working for a contractor logistics company and not employed by Amazon.

Hm but that adds a lot more complexity, as then every single network item has to have an UPS as well, right? Certainly not a problem for a company with server room and racks. But at home in a house, the hardware might be spread out across rooms and floors. If there is a switch somewhere without UPS, it will cut off certain clients from receiving the signal via network upon power outage.

Is this doable with one UPS? I'm thinking of the signal wire so the device knows it's running on battery and has to shut itself down sooner or later. We have 2 (who need shutdown, +1 can just lose power I guess) different devices mentioned here.

I have one older APC UPS on the PC and one newer Eaton UPS on the NAS. Each UPS has a signal port with a cable connected to the main device that runs some software to notice when it's on battery and supposed to shut itself down after X minutes battery time.

The NAS UPS also has the router, phone and zigbee hub connected, but only the NAS will shut itself down, the rest will just lose power at some point, but those don't matter.

How do you get the server and NAS to both get the signal and both shut down after X minutes? Is there a specific UPS features required?

Well now they have to take over the subs and get new moderators. They won't just sit there and watch Reddit burn further.

For the 2 days private protest, their comment that it will be over soon was appropriate. As giving an exact time frame allows to know the exact end of it. They could just sit there and wait it out.

Now with the indefinite protest, they have to act. And to get to content onto Reddit again, they will probably be looking for new unpaid ~~strike breakers~~ mods for those subs, so they don't have to actually hire and pay people to moderate content on their soon publicly traded company website.

I understand this is a positive news in the first week of the counter offensive, but to me - it makes me feel depressed.

It makes me look at the size of Ukraine and the occupied areas. There are thousands or probably ten thousands of occupied settlements and villages. Reporting 5 of e.g. 18.000 liberated... it is positive, it is a news, it makes me depressed looking at the scaled of what lies ahead in this war to get Russia out of Ukraine.

The thing I am hoping for and expecting, that this is not a continuous speed. In the past, we have seen Russian lines disintegrate, troops flee in civilian clothing and the front lines moved tens of kilometers within a single day.
