That's a bap.

No experience with it, but…

  • Founded in 2018
  • Copyright date says 2020
  • Still says "Join as a Founder!" in 2023
  • Appears to be tied up in crypto nonsense

Signs point to untrustworthy.

If you're on desktop, look at the right hand side of your screen, scroll down a little, and click the link that says "Megathread".

If you're on mobile, tap the ⋮ in the top-right of the Piracy community, then tap Community Info. Scroll down a little, and tap the link that says "Megathread".

It's also the first link in the pinned post in the community.

Not an answer, but just to cover the bases:

I use https://audiobookbay.li/ but, as you say, it can be a bit unreliable, especially if the book isn't recent.

There's https://tokybook.com/ (from the Megathread) but its selection is somewhat lacking too.

The HVAC industry is working on that.

From the old Megathread: "These are not recommended on this subreddit as trusted sites for various reasons, but the main reasons why igg-games is not recommended is due to their history of shady behavior"

I tried to sign up for Instagram to check it out. Here's my experience of attempting to sign up:

  • I gave my email address and date of birth.
  • I chose a password.
  • I chose a usernam--
  • Upon typing the first character of my chosen username, I saw an error message: "An error has occurred. Please refresh the page."
  • I refreshed the page.
  • "Your account has been suspended as you have breached our Community Guidelines. Please complete the information below to have the matter reviewed."
  • I gave my email address (again).
  • I checked my email and click the link they sent me.
  • I gave my phone number.
  • I checked my SMS and provide the code they sent me.
  • I was asked to take a "Verification Selfie". You have to write your name, your username, and a six-digit number they give you "on a clean piece of paper" and hold it up. Your hand and face must be visible in the photo. It's not entirely clear what they want to verify this picture against. Or what username you're supposed to use, because, again, this whole thing started when I'd typed an "a".

And at that point I realised I wasn't welcome on Instagram.

Back when Amazon Smile was a thing, I had Amazon notifications turned on (a prerequisite for earning charity donations), and had Tasker set up to automatically dismiss them so they wouldn't bother me.

TIL about "flag disposal boxes" (content.govdelivery.com)
submitted 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

They're rubbish bins (or perhaps textile recycling bins, but probably not) specifically for national, regional, and/or local flags.

Edited to clarify: No judgment, I am not making a political or societal argument, just posting about a thing I learned exists. If this post gets hijacked I'll ask the mods to lock it.

YSK the #SignalForHelp (www.domesticshelters.org)
submitted 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

What it is: Someone shows you the palm of their hand with their thumb conspicuously tucked across it, then closes their fingers around their thumb, in a video call or in real life.

Why YSK: If a person uses the signal for help, they are telling you that they need help, and they can't directly ask for it. Do not acknowledge the signal. When you can, contact them in a way that you're less likely to be overheard such as text or email, and try to find out what they need. Asking yes-no questions will further reduce the risk to them. A good first question would be "Are you in danger right now?" followed by "Do you need the emergency services?"

Well, maybe "we" don't, but I would like one. We have Friendface for Facebook, Birdsite* for Twitter, what can we call Reddit?

Edit: Snoosite seems to be the leader at the moment. Kanamit also seems like a good pick.

*among others. My personal favourite is Daddy Elon's Hellscape.

Why YSK: If you leave your windows in the wrong state by accident, you don't need to get back into your car. If you've got out of your car and forgotten to close your windows, you can close them while you lock the car. If your car is hot, you can open your windows and let it cool a little without having to get inside. If you absent-mindedly close your windows on a hot day and leave a pet unattended inside, you can roll down your windows much quicker than having to rush over to your car and fumble with the buttons.

To do this: On some cars, you press-and-hold the lock/unlock button. On others, you press the lock/unlock button twice, or press then press-and-hold. Check your car's manual or google it on whichever your favourite search engine is.

Where's everybody from? (lemmy.blahaj.zone)
submitted 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

Just curious how spread out we are. I'm up in West Yorkshire myself.

Edited to add: Hi /all! Please remember this is a UK-based community, just in case you're confused. But you are of course welcome. :)

(Please remember that anything you post on the Fediverse might stay on other instances forever, even if you delete it from yours. I'd recommend you not get any more specific than county or local authority level.)

The sheer number of videos taken "the wrong way round" (for my computer's monitor) is mind-boggling. I get that some people watch videos on their phones, but is it really that many?
