Exactly this, they're best used as a tax free investment account rather than anything health related. If you're on a plan with high enough a deductable to be eligible for an HSA and can afford it you should max out your HSA contributions before even a penny of unmatched 401k contributions. Personally I'd argue that you're better off maxing out the HSA and using post-tax money to pay medical expenses unless close to the end of your career. It's one of it not the single most easily taken advantage of ways to not pay tax at all on a long term investment.

The system is indeed stupid but the least you can do is take advantage of it where possible and for the middle class the HSA is one of the best ways.

In China the digital boarding pass QR code changes every 30 seconds preventing screenshots or photos of it from being used. But as they're currently implemented in the US it's no different than paper.

The bigger issue is how bad airline apps handle anything even slightly out of the ordinary like itineraries including codeshare segments or just randomly have server problems. I fly 50+ times a year and am able to actually use the digital boarding pass only ~95% of the time.

Maybe it happens in isolated incidents but it's certainly not widespread in any battery factories I've visited. These factories are incredibly automated because their government is pumping tons of money into battery manufacturing. Any foreign company purchasing these batteries is basically talking a subsidy from the Chinese government, it's a good deal for everyone except the wider Chinese economy in the short term really.

Factory labor is typically from rural parts of the country where there is less opportunity, but the Chinese attitude toward holidays is much better than we have particularly in the USA. By coordinating the whole country gets several week long holidays a year to return to their hometowns or to do larger vacations with truly no pressure to think about work during that time. The standard of living in China has drastically risen over the previous 2 decades and companies simply can't get away with the same level of poor working conditions they used to be able to. There's a reason that so many companies are moving their manufacturing to other parts of SE Asia, labor in China simply isn't that cheap anymore.

The fingerprint sensor on the 8 series is really bad and battery quite mediocre. In my opinion pixels are rarely worth their asking prices relative to Samsung's offerings. I have had an 8, 8 pro, and now 9 Pro XL and the 9 series really feels significantly more complete than the others despite relatively small difference on paper.

Relative to other Android phones the biggest difference with pixels is the lack of customization. The cameras are amazing but the rest of the experience feels pretty hampered in my opinion.

A3 TDI? I have one of those and so many breakdowns in the first year. Luckily the warranty they were forced to add from having cheated on emissions covered all repairs. Haven't had any major issues for two years now on it thankfully, I'm not sure I'd recommend it generally but realistically with what you save on fuel cost the extra long term repair cost balances it out a bit.

This depends on perspective. Reddit is much better for most very specific communities, but also much more of a time sink than Lemmy due to just how much larger it is. In terms of reclaiming some of your time back using Lemmy is a great alternative to Reddit because you can't scroll forever, forcing you to stop. This is thoroughly in the realm of a feature for me, not having Reddit on my phone or PC is much better in terms of how I use my time.

For delivery vehicles EV makes a ton of sense. They never travel at the high speeds where EVs are least efficient, they have a consistent place to slow charge every night to prolong battery life, the brakes don't wear despite heavy start/stop service thanks to regen, and by being a single fleet owner the availability of maintenance isn't a large concern.

WSL is sufficient for many Windows users and developers without privacy concerns motivating them to switch to a full Linux distro.

This is how Dallas got a Republican Mayor. They elected a Democrat but less than a month later he flipped, such clearly premeditated party changes should be illegal, it's not what the voters thought they were casting their ballots for.

The writing has been on the wall for a while now. All retirement planning I've done is based on the assumption that SSA won't be around by the time I retire. The fact that we can't even remove the taxable maximum to retain some degree of financial solvency is proof enough.

I think the most likely course of action is that we will get some portion of our contributions back, but not the full amount. I just hope that they don't raise the retirement age so much to try to retain the illusion of being able to get a full payout. I'd rather get a fraction of my contributions back at 67 than need to risk living to a much older age but receiving full benefits.
