What's wrong with people is that sociopaths who crave money and power to do awful things like this tend to be very good at getting them, whereas people with compassion and kindness tend to be overly generous and want to see the good in others, so tend to give away too much money and power to those sociopaths, especially if those sociopaths are good at putting up a noble front.

Plus, vast segments of the human population are basically blind sheep that don't think for themselves, and do whatever the media tells them to do. Only way to really solve this in the long term is by convincing people with morals to be more ambitious and to understand how to gain, then use money and power to influence society and the media. The dictator / oligarch types are very good at this (controlling money, power, and the media) whereas nice people who just want to help everyone are very poor at this.

I don't want to get a protractor out to measure the angle, but it kind of feels like that's not quite 45 degrees. I didn't get the joke at first until I realized it was a math joke. Like the ones that one "funny" math teacher in school used to make. To be fair, most of the "funny" math teachers I had actually were pretty funny, though.

Like others have been saying, that was more of a technicality than a reality, as the actual age for every prefecture was already 16-18, with ages lower than 18 generally only being permissible in a legal marriage approved of by the parents (If I'm remembering right).

It's kind of like if in the US, the Federal age of consent was 13, but all 50 states and every territory had already raised it to 16 to 18, meaning the real age of consent was basically 18, it's just that congress was too lazy or distracting to update the federal law to what all the states and territories had already passed.

Is that really in there? That's the kind of humor that's so low effort that I literally made that joke off the cuff in City of Heroes (back when it was a thing) when I met a Fire Superhero while playing an Ice Super Hero. "Yo Fyre Tank: U R Hot!11!"

She's 90% there, but forgot the camo facepaint makeup and something to cover her hair. I don't know how they do it now, but camo paint used to come in a make up style compact back when I went through basic. We made "Cover Girl" jokes about it and stuff.

I don't get it, who's jeff the kill? Also, will Youtube copyright strike me if I mention him without paying?

Yeah, story of my life. Me too. Especially the part about "I don't know what I did wrong, but people won't explain it to me because they feel like I should magically know"

I totally identify with and agree with you. I also have to note that if there's a small amount of downvotes that are within the margin of error, it might be a misclick or mistouch, especially if the upvote and downvote arrows are REALLY close together. I've gone back to look at some of the stuff I voted on only to find that I'd accidentally downvotes due to an overly sensitive gaming mouse, fat fingers, and / or just being too busy laughing at a funny meme or being excited by an amazing post and not really paying close attention to where I was clicking.

I corrected those accidental downvotes, but I'm OCD about stuff like that because I don't like downvoting people either. So I can easily imagine that casuals who are clumsly or really excited about a post they like might downvote by accident and not go back and fix it. Totally serious here. A lot of downvotes are probably supposed to be upvotes.

You need to buy a license to look up that answer.

Not actually 13, that was only allowable if the other party is 17 or under.

from the article:

Previously, Japan had one of the lowest age of consent among developed nations. However, a person who has had sex with a minor aged 13 to 15 will be punished only if the person is five or more years older than the minor.

Yes, that was my favorite strategy game of that time. I tried to recreate the experience by playing Age of Wonders, but it didn't quite feel the same.

Slitherine released a remake of it late last year. Haven't tried it myself, but the reviews seem decent.

Tyrian was great! And also Tyrian 2000 which I was able to play somewhere. Maybe Gametap or some similar service. I remember trying it out as shareware (I think) and thinking it was Epic Games' best published shooter to date. Still holds up, imo.

I loved the upgrades and the fact that you had a health bar instead of a 1 hit kill. Plus all the stuff you said.

Ultima 6. It was Baldur's Gate before Baldur's Gate, and it had very deep conversation and morality systems. Also amazing VGA graphics (for the time, 256 colors!) interesting PC Speaker AND Sound Blaster music, and an interesting open world and story that showed that preconceived notions and prejudices can be bad, and that sometimes you can solve cultural misunderstandings through communication and sharing instead of conflict.

Ultima 6 was a masterpiece and way ahead of its time. If any of the Ultima games needs a remake, it's that one, imo. I also played Goblins 2, but never got around to 1 or 3. Did enjoy it, but got stuck on some puzzles and gave up. You couldn't just go online and find a solution like you can nowadays. If I ever got back into the Goblins series, I probably would finish them using those online hints though. I've lost the patience (and more importantly, time) to do it the hard way nowadays.
