I upvoted this meme, but to be fair, I often feel like it's more certain Linux developers that don't like (or understand) simplicity and convenience rather than the users. Users that migrate to more simple distros like Mint, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, etc. generally get to have a pretty simple experience.

I was on Linux Mint with Cinnamon for almost a year at one point because I was tired of Windows giving me problems, and was able to handle it because I wasn't really playing games during that time. Only had to leave because I got sick of trying to get my games to work through WINE because back then, it was actually difficult and not like nowadays with Proton and Steam Deck. I still got World of Warcraft working though, oddly enough.

Agree. I'm not even sure if they're sincere half the time. Sometimes it honestly seems like they're just trying to start a fight and don't believe what they're actually "saying". On Kbin and Lemmy, it's a different experience. People engage positively or neutrally, and actually have civil discussions. It's unusual to say the least, but still very welcome.

Do your kids use ChromeOS at school? If that's simpler for you to maintain than Windows, might be worth getting that for them. Unless they're gaming or something, in which case it might not be feasible.

Ah you said it, the Linux version of mentioning "Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker"

No, I'm sorry, the GNU / Linux version, I mean.

To be fair, mostly if it's a more user friendly and Windows-like distro, like Mint with Cinnamon or Xubuntu. Plenty of choices really, but generally the ones where you can put application shortcuts on the desktop with no hassle (and similar Windows like things) tend to be an easier transition.

So true. Even Apple is spying, they just haven't provably monetized it... yet. Probably will be the next person after Tim Cook who does it.

When I got tired of some BS changes Google was making with Chrome (and concerned about the Chromium near-monopoly) I switched to Firefox. It had just revamped itself out of the Australis debacle, and had some very good extensions available on the front page of its store, so I switched and never looked back.

Honestly, for what I wanted and needed out of a browser, it was just better than Chrome, and it still is. Highly underrated browser, and I wish more people would give it a shot. I also wish that Mozilla would give people the option to change its default icon with their new, more sleek orange and purple swirl without the fox and world.

The default Firefox icon honestly isn't very stylish (especially when compared to the Chrome icon and the new Edge icon) and I think a lot of people may just avoid it due to not liking the way the icon looks. Dead serious here, marketing / image is everything for a lot of tech products.

Thanks for sharing it. I somehow made it all the way to an end, and the insights in this article are ingenious, and so very true. It's also eerie how these companies' behavior is so similar to a manipulative, narcissistic, controlling sociopath that tricks people into abusive, co-dependent relationships that become very difficult to leave.

I think it's because the people in charge of them are also narcissistic sociopaths, and that personality affects the company's culture and works its way down into the product.

I really wish the Sherman anti-trust act were enforced more frequently and harshly nowadays, and the companies weren't allowed to buy their competitors and become megacorps. I'm glad things like the Fediverse exist to help fight back, because we're probably already about halfway to becoming a Cyberpunk dystopia. We're just missing the Cyber, honestly.

Honestly, I'm shocked by this. I would have thought that they'd at least be not-stupid enough to have something like that.

I almost thought this was a joke at first, but it looks like it's legit? Anyhow, the fact that you need a spreadsheet is one of the reasons I never got into EVE. I don't want a game that's a second job. Doesn't help that most of the office jobs I ever had required me to constantly make and use spreadsheets.

Neither, pull a Chris Redfield and "boulder punch" the trolley with a quicktime event to smash it off of the tracks. Provided that you can run fast enough to catch up with it in time that is.

If that doesn't work, go back in time with your time machine and train in running and do arm workouts until you're fast and strong enough to run up to the trolley and punch it over in time. Or maybe change things so that you're never caught in either trolley situation to begin with. I dunno.

Ah, the Legend of Kyrandia series. Underrated gems that aren't appreciated enough today. Especially the first one, that was the best one and a real classic. Back when Westwood as more than a Command and Conquer studio, and Joe Kucan wasn't all Kane all the time.

If any "obscure" adventure game deserves a remaster, it's Legend of Kyrandia 1. The music also was just amazing for the time, especially if you had a sound card.
