The Legend series was underrated. I was disappointed when they announced 3 only to cancel it. I was surprised at how much I liked it despite being a fan of the original and X.

Yep, so true. Even before it wasn't such a great place. It encouraged anger and fights, doomscrolling, and negativity even before Musk took over. I was seriously considering leaving it for good before he bought it. He just made a bad thing worse, honestly. It was already on a downward trend. Even their internal research had shown that all of their top tweeters who had the most positive engagement had already gone away.

Clever. Shows just how important punctuation is. Haven't thought about stuff like this in a while.

That's why I deleted my actual Facebook account, it really did give me the impression that the company was Cyberstalking me. They knew stuff I did not tell them or put down anywhere in any of the data forms they gave me to fill out. I didn't upload any pictures, I barely did much of anything, yet somehow they seemed to know everything about me anyway.

I eventually made a new "account" a few years later and left it completely blank and filled out nothing but my name... and yet they still guessed quite a few things correctly, including who I knew in real life. So damn creepy. I only use that new account for log in synchronization for games and apps that don't have any other means of access. I wish I could get rid of it too, but it's a necessary evil for certain edge cases.

If you're joining the Fediverse to take Reddit down and migrate people over... then it makes sense to talk about it. Have to strategize to identify your enemy's weaknesses it order to take 'em down. And while you're doing it, negative things about Reddit will come out. Even if it does end up being complaining, it's part of the process and it'll make people feel better while also doubling as important brainstorming.

I used to think this was true too, but then I realized that the fundamental problem with capitalism is that it's incompatible with democracy and regulation. That's why literally every capitalist country on earth (including the wealthy ones) has a problem with regulatory capture, corruption, and buyout and supplanting of the actual government.

Capitalism encourages the greediest, trickiest, and most selfish people to rise to the top and stay there through a mixture of brute force and media manipulation. In essence, it's not much different than totalitarian authoritarian governments, it's just more subtle.

Look at Fox news and right wing media bubbles for instance, or the Democratic party which opposes ranked choice voting whenever it can and constantly says one thing and does another. Humans are too greedy, selfish, and short-sighted to live and exist for long under a system like capitalism. How do we know this? Look around, climate change and pollution's already serious and it's not changing anytime soon.

We're probably already fucked, and we just don't know how much we are just yet.

Ironically, for old stuff at least, Piracy is the only way it's reliably preserved. Even if you do want to buy it new to support the creators, oft-times you can't. It's because I can't buy it that I turn to piracy. Not just for old games, but sometimes old comics and manga too. Occasionally Anime that's no longer licensed or available.

Plus, it's only going to get worse now, with Streaming services and online platforms delisting anything even that might not make a profit because they don't want to pay residuals. I'm not big on pirating new releases, but that's because I think we should support artists. I also think we should call for the creators to be paid more of the profit share vs. the money people at the top who seem to do nothing but fire people and shoot down good ideas to try to make everything the same carbon copy live service.

I also don't have to pirate new stuff, because it'll old stuff on sale at half price (or less) soon enough, and with all the bugs fixed and the features added the way it should have been at launch. My backlog is so huge that I won't have time to go through it anyway before I die. So there's another reason I don't care much about new games. If I'm still interested in them a year or more later when they're on sale and fixed up, I'll buy it then.

As for stuff like Anime and Manga. Anime subscriptions are surprisingly cheap, and so are monthly manga subs if you know where to look. Viz's Shounen Jump ($3) Vizmanga ($2), Azuki.co ($5), Mangamo (also $5 last I checked)... so long as you only subscribe to one at a time and rotate, you'll probably never run out, and it's a lot cheaper than buying it one volume at a time $10 each or whatever.

This tracks. Youtube's introduced 30 second unskippable ads for some reason I cannot fathom (I exit all the way out of the app whenver they try that) and the slow and steady decline of most mainstream social media is expected, due to the enshitification.

Twitter and now Reddit are probably going to die slow deaths, although Twitter will most likely go first. Reddit... may hold on for longer until a mainstream competitor arrives to replace it, or people finally decide to try the Fediverse.

Yo, people change! At first I was like, "Pssh, unions suck, they don't ever want me in them anyway." But then later on they were like, "I like you, you're cool. Why don't you join our union club? All the cool people are doing it." and then I was like, "Peer pressure? Naw, I HAVE to give in to it."

So I joined the union.

Ah, the Windows approach. The few times I worked with PC Repair shops, backing up everything and reinstalling the OS was the go to for most "repairs". Especially since it was faster and cheaper than just researching all the issues and repairing them the "right" way. Although to be fair, if the OS is borked enough, backup + reinstall IS the right way.

Agree. Along with the overly high increase in the cost of living in almost every western society, processed food is responsible for the really low modern quality of life. The fact that both of these things are driven by short-sighted capitalism that doesn't consider the cost to the population or the world just makes it worse.
