That was my comprehension as well, it just seemed highly impractical to define a completely unique system (in this case imperial) while there is a largely used alternative (metric). Both systems coexisting makes much more sense.

So that's the good thing, you have another admin (I don't think you mentioned it at any point earlier, if you did, sorry I missed it), which is a good thing! You should probably insist on that when you promote your community
When I speak about redundancy, I speak about sysadmins as much as disk redundancy. Taking my hypothetical scenario, something happens to you, you are in the coma, there is a security breach (like the one from a few days back), is there someone to take care of it? I know it might be unlikely but as I said, the Vlemmy thing was very low probability and still happened
Definitely, as someone mentioned in a 2015 thread (https://libreddit.domain.glass/r/pcmasterrace/comments/2sehgh/pc_gamer_stop_calling_ourselves_the_pc_master/cnopv2a/),
- As an American. I would wear a pcmr shirt.
- Would you use a "PC Slave Masters" shirt in, say, Detroit?
- Huh? Is that relevant?
- Yes. Each country has it's social issues, stigmas, and taboos. In Germany Nazism is a major taboo, in the States racism and slavery is one.
Just to add to your point, here is a comment about German users commenting that they would not feel comfortable wearing PCMR gear in Germany, and that was in 2015, the reaction would probably be even stronger today: https://libreddit.domain.glass/r/pcmasterrace/comments/2sehgh/pc_gamer_stop_calling_ourselves_the_pc_master/cnopv2a/
That's very good, but what I'm saying is that people are getting cautious nowadays to make sure that their accounts can survive long term. I hope you'll be well as long as possible, but what happens if something happens to you tomorrow? Who would take care of the servers? Do you have a redundancy plan? The success of LW as the main Lemmy instance is because the admins are experienced, and are a team. Some other instances are managed by non profits or long established groups. That can be a differentiator for choices.
I see, indeed the humorous part should be preserved. As I'm a bit lazy, I asked ChatGPT for suggestions with "Glorious" in it, here are its answers:
- The Glorious PC Gaming Order
- The Glorious PC Gaming Guild
- The Glorious PC Gaming Legion
- The Glorious PC Gaming Society
Glorious Gaming Guild would be G³, and kind of have the same vibe as PCMR, what do you think?
Be also careful with potential users being cautious about you going out of business overnight. Vlemmy.net members had that happen to them last week.
Someone fell for the Hot bug algorithm I guess. Or some learning necromancer
No way! Then probably something like Ask Me Something?
Probably AMA, it's not like there's anything related to Reddit in the name
Ha ha ha we'll never know
