Not totally related, but in the mid 2000s, I had thought that being made an NPC in a video game was a really kind honor- that someone probably really cared about you.
(usually if they didn't, you'd get relegated to a humiliating gag or antagonist. Technically also NPCs, I guess, but not what you think of as "NPC")

...And then the internet went and turned NPC into an insult.

Makes me feel sad for all those loving tributes and Make a Wish kids.

And filter your water.
And your dog's water.
And your Car's water.
And give your cat a big ass water dish. (cats can get kidney issues because they stop drinking due to whisker damage from small bowl rims)

You're absolutely right! You don't want to fuck around with your kidneys! I'm not going to post the details here, but you should request an AMA from someone who works in Dialysis if you enjoy NSFL content.

They definitely do feel like they've spent too long in their self-described "Academic Zoo."

Having not been in academia for years now, I absolutely agree with you on this- nothing drives reading comprehension and general attention span quite like a real incentive.

In a way, I kinda think you're both right, but the article's approach is all wrong. They want to treat the symptom, not the disease.

The "Ruling class" is incentivized to inspire the kind of apathy that just happens to inspire poor literacy, and instead of focusing on haranguing people about reading, we just need to give them reasons to give a shit about, you know, anything.
A zest for life in general.

People who feel passion will write and read- you see it simply by the fact that fanfiction went crazy the moment the internet got a decent volume of users.

I never got to play this character very long, but I had this idiot rich draconic bloodline Sorcerer whose parents had hidden the fact that they were a Tiefling from them.

As far as they knew, they were a half-orc with a skin condition, born when their father was shamed and banished, and their mother was swept off their feet by a gallant orc of the hinterlands. (lol, no, the parents are evil AF demon worshippers spawning teiflings into the bloodline, and they're too dumb to realize it. No hot orc babydaddy to speak of)

They cut off the tail and cauterized the horn buds really early, and basically the plan was to see if they discovered the Draconic Bloodline before or after getting hit by a strong enough healing spell to restore their demonic features.

They probably wouldn't be able to understand the idea that they could be both part demon and part dragon, and part Good aligned and part Evil aligned creature, to boot. Comedy gold in the right party.

They're delightful creatures, and make strange noises, if you are unaware.
The mating songs may remind you of what you might expect, but some of the sounds sound quite primeval or even scifi.

I don't have kids, but I went through a year of my pup not eating enough in the evening and vomiting in the morning several times a week.
That was worrysome, and she didn't come out of me.

You must feel pretty great.

And be proud of yourself for advocating for your child's health like that. This is a pattern you're setting your child up for that helps them both medically and in terms of their self-worth.

The Frog Detective series is pleasant, light, and overall delightful. Feels like a slightly more grownup Humongous Games kinda title.

And I do have to check- Did you play the Manhunter games?
They're super overlooked for Sierra titles, (and some lists don't seem to mention them) but they're still authentic old school adventure game.
Super cheezy though.

I use Gboard with the one handed option always enabled, so I can keep my keyboard exactly where I want it on the screen.

Some health issues make excessive keystrokes painful, and my phone is big enough already. I have it adjusted to about the keyboard size of a Galaxy S2 on screen keyboard, and to the right.

I keep Hacker's Keyboard if I ever wind up playing something old school, though I usually wind up playing Pathos if I get an itch for NetHack on the go.

If anyone has a good option for keyboards you can force to keep on top for Accessability/gaming purposes, though, let me know.
