Rule #1: do not be a communist

[–] [email protected] 26 points 2 years ago (1 children)

on at least one occasion, Abe Lincoln bullied an opponent to tears with ad hominem attacks.

This might sound a little debate-me-debate-me but in highschool my history class had a facebook group for discussing the politics that came up from the readings and discussions for us to turn into essay bits and junk. We had a conservative weenie in there and while I was very far from being a raging communist or even a socialist the both of us got into it about healthcare laws and other bullshit which eventually just turned into me berating him for just straight up lying about the laws and policies, the fact that he read the entire obamacare law (LOL). Everyone fucking hated all of his shit I got so much praise from everyone in that group, including my future girlfriend. The only time debate was ever tangibly good for me.

They arnt, theyre just interested in silencing us because they dont realize they have extremely conservative tendencies!

They arnt ready or willing to examine their contradictions because they arnt unhappy yet.

Do you think we have fun doing this? Trying to change your mind from thinking the way the bourgeoisie wants you to think? We do this because we want solidarity, so that we can stand together and not alone the way our world has divided us.

How come none of you guys are talking about the Irish as slaves? This is why everyone in Boston should get a Lamborghini as reparations.

I'm one of the users that was pretty skeptical of federating, I really genuinely dont like meta discussion at all and love my community's weird culture; but being able to choose between Local and All has been pretty reasonable to me. IF anyone from hexbear is commenting on your instance its because they want to. Whether or not theyre totally conscious of it and trying to actually post good is another issue, but I doubt we really have a higher percentage of shitposters than any other instance does, theres just more of us in general.

Since its pretty hard to prove a negative, can you name a topic or thing that isnt political in some way?

This is why we say that people trying to depoliticize things is an ideology, it is a politics of the status quo. It allows people to be ignorant of the status quo, of who it harms and what it demands. Most status quo is also very conservative, and broadly benefits them the most of all the brands of politics.

Wasnt there literally a huge thread on hexbear about Tiennamen just the other day? It was incredibly nuanced and far from whatever this dude is summarizing it as.

Cat died last week. She was always there for me and now it feels like my home is empty. I've had her for most of my life and I dont really know or feel the same about anything.

I still religiously hunt for good sushi and deals for it. Before covid I found a place that still did really good, unique, specialty rolls for $15 and had a happy hour section of also based rolls that were $5. I mean this is a place that still insists on putting asparagus into rolls and it works so fucking well. Good sushi/seafood IMO is one of those foods that money really does make the difference for, compared to steak or cocktails.
