For what it's worth, i'm running it on a VPS that cost $25 USD for the year, and it is running fine.

I didn't want to open my homeserver up for lemmy.

Most of mine have already been mentioned, but here are a few I didn't see:

  • Songs by Spencer A guy named Spencer makes songs. Relatively new channel, but the production quality is top notch. I think his day job is owner of a video production company.

  • Cheap Audio Man Reviews relatively cheap audio gear. Cheap is a pretty wide range in the audio world.

  • Awesome Open Source Talks about open source software. Usually runs through how to install and basic usage/features.

  • Chris Titus Tech Tech channel. Mostly Windows and Linux.

  • Techno Tim Mostly homelab related stuff

  • 66Samus Drum stuff

  • Nicole van der Hoeven Obsidian.md / Personal Knowledge Management

  • Rachel Maksy Cosplay / crafty stuff

  • How to ADHD ADHD stuff

  • Coffeezilla Covers scams, grifters, etc.

  • James Hoffmann All things coffee

  • The Kiffness Makes songs out of random internet clips of animals. Or remixes other people singing. My kids love this channel.

Are they all posts on lemmy.world? I'm having the same issue, but I assume it is related to the ongoing issues on .world.

I learned this the hard way. Started with Manjaro because it was "easier", and I had nothing but trouble. Switched to Arch, and it's been smooth sailing.

You may feel like you're doing fine now but there may be a point where things change and your capacity is reduced. This is where knowing you're neurodivergent can be helpful

Thank you for this! My GP doesn't think I have ADHD because I can hold down a job. He asked me at my last appointment, "So, you still want to try and get on ADHD meds?"

I didn't know how to word that I don't just want a diagnosis for meds. I want to know what I'm working with so I can get whatever help I need, when I need it.

Along with the crazy prices, there is the simplicity. No need to figure out what is streaming where. Just open plex/jellyfin and watch.

I'd like to request a guarantee for https://lemmy.lylapol.com Just me on this instance right now, and I have zero desire to moderate members of the public, so if my instance ever expands it will only be friends I know in person. Thanks!

Extremely simple! It's literally just a few screws and unplug the old one and put in the new. Took all of 10 minutes and at least half of that was trying to find my small screwdriver bits. Lol

My use case sounds similar to yours, so I'd second the T480. I got one 7-8 months ago, and it's been great so far. Only thing I changed was I put in a backlit keyboard.

I don't know any general laptop communities. At leasr not ones with any activity, but [email protected] seems relatively active.

If you ever need to find a community, https://lemmyverse.net/communities is a decent place to start.

Arch currently. When I came back to linux, I started with Manjaro because I heard it was easier. I had more problems than I would like so gave regular Arch a try and had a significantly vetter experience.

Going to try NixOS out at some point though.

I really want to give NixOS a try when I have some time to learn. I've been on Arch for a couple years now, and I'm ready for a change. Lol.

Any places you recommend going to learn how to get started in addition to the official docs?
