We should challenge some of those superlatives that projects such as GrapheneOS can coin from time to time. Those projects are not abstract master entities, they have people behind of it and they are not authorities in all subject matters. They are correct about Gecko browsers insecurities on Android however it may be questionable the use of the term "leagues ahead" in this comparative. I use GrapheneOS and Vanadium but I don't believe that using some Gecko hardened browser would be so terrible like it sound. Specially if you are not a focused target. For example, I keep Tor as a secondary browser for some specific tasks on my phone.

People could perhaps start helping more the Servo project. They really need some help and for those that program in Rust or want to learn it this could be a very good place to devote your attention.

This looks promising, very similar to Metro but an active project. Thanks for sharing.

If you need it for Android, I tried quite a few. I had the same requisites, offline, lyrics for flac files, I ended up using Metro: https://f-droid.org/packages/io.github.muntashirakon.Music/

Very minimalist and do the job very well. I use the field "Composer" to sort my lists.

A significant security drawback with many alternative Android operating systems is that they either require or are commonly used with root access, which inherently weakens the device's security model. GrapheneOS, by contrast, is designed to be used without root access. Traditional root implementations fundamentally compromise Android's security mechanisms like verified boot, app sandboxing, and the principle of least privilege, making the device much more vulnerable to exploitation.

South american here, I grew up knowing those animals and capybaras and I find fascinating when the rest of the world get to know those creatures and have a blast. It is cool that something trivial for me is something amusing for someone else.

Here are two interesting( I guess) shots:

Google turning Pixels more and more complicated to have alternative OS isn't a good sign. I hope GrapheneOS come up with a open source and secure phone alternative. Fairphone or TeraCubes using alternative OSes aren't private or secure enough. I hate to say that but if I would be in the market today for a phone I'd be considering an IPhone.

I'd sleep the two days, nobody would mess with me.

The way that I see, Linux phones will only get traction when we are able to install android apps and use high end spec phones with good security. I hope that I'm wrong.

Do you have a Netflix plugin 4K setup working?

I ask because even in the plugin page there are a few indications contradictory that indicates otherwise:

First is the warning in the main page: "DUE TO CHANGES TO THE WEBSITE THAT PREVENT THE PROPER PLAYBACK OF VIDEOS, THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE ADD-ON HAS BEEN SUSPENDED. THE VIDEO PLAYBACK, WHEN IT WORKS, IS LIMITED TO SD QUALITY AND ONLY ON SOME LINUX/ANDROID DEVICES."

Second in the section "Reference table of high resolution" there is a footnote saying the following: "*4 Hardware decoding and 4k are supported only to devices with Netflix certification, Widevine Security Level L1 and HDCP 2.2 hardware."

Third in the list of 1080P 4k Android tested devices we see basically only Netflix approved devices: https://github.com/CastagnaIT/plugin.video.netflix/wiki/List-of-1080P-4k-Android-tested-devices

Hi - I saw this new technology announced at CES 2025 about new four-stack OLED panels made by LG for TVs:

https://www.techradar.com/televisions/lg-displays-new-4-000-nit-four-stack-oled-panel-means-brighter-and-better-oled-tvs

Does anyone know if those panels are planned to come to 2025 monitors as well?

Read about this bike on Reddit. Yeah, sorry, I'm still transitioning.

Watched a couple of videos. Not gonna lie, it called my attention. If was some know brand I'd probably already contacted my local dealer.

Does anyone has some inputs about it?

Hey, I saw the post last week about a quest for a MMORPG mouse and it inspired me to ask for help as well. My needs are similar but not exactly the same from the OP last week:

  1. Gaming MMORPGs and FPS (like everyone I guess)
  2. I want specific 3 or 4 buttons additional to the front buttons, placed on the sides
  3. Under 100g
  4. Length up to 127mm (small hands)
  5. No thumb rest is probably best.

It doesn't seem that we have many new mouse models with those requirements which is a bummer. I identified some ambidextrous mouses distributing the buttons which I think I could perhaps make it work but not sure. Here are the ones that I found. PLEASE COMMENT IF I SHOULD REMOVE ONE OF THOSE FROM MY LIST OF CONTENDERS AND WHAT WOULD YOU PICK:

a. ~~Razer Viper Ultimate~~ -- disqualified because is Razer

b. ~~Logitech G PRO~~ -- 60 hours battery may not be enough for today standard

c. Pulsar X2A

d. ~~Razer Viper 8khz~~ -- disqualified because is Razer

e. ~~Alienware Tri-Mode~~ -- side buttons can't be disabled if desired

f. ~~MMOPRO~~ -- mouse sensor not optimal

g. ~~Machenike L8 Pro~~ -- not sure if it has a third button on the sides

h. Edifier Hecate G4M Pro

i. Kone XP Air -- looks to be what I'm looking -- at 126mm it may be too large for short hands (in another context this sentence would be quite odd)

j. ~~Pwnage~~ -- having to adopt a criteria this one uses 3370 sensor and the newest mouses are using the 3395 sensor. So, keeping the mouses with 3389 and 3395 sensor in this list. It also features only 38mm of height and it may not be ergonomic to use the buttons on the right side

k. ~~Ducky Feather~~ -- this has option to choose between Kailh 8.0, Huano Blue and 60M Switches, however they doesn't seem swapable and given that it is not wireless it may be better to cut off

l. Lenovo Legion M7 -- at 127mm it may be too large for small hands (in another context this sentence would be quite odd)

m. Keychron M6

n. Glorious Model l 2 -- probably the winner. Although, I will need to find a way to either accept the thumb rest or get rid of it

Final considerations, I don't care if is wired or not. I see myself almost all the time with the mouse wired. Although would be nice to be USB C featured for a paracord cable.

I need most help to understand those techinical differences that I'm not very familiar.

Thank you for the inputs

EDIT: I gave up. The mouse that I'm looking was not created yet. I decided to go with a light regular 2 side buttons mouse.

Does anyone know if there is another electro capacitive full keyboard with wireless/Bluetooth and preference using 45g key pressing profile that is not Realforce R3?

Hey, I have a Heliboard question and not sure if this is the right place to ask, sorry.

I have three system languages in my phone. The three of them shows in Heliboard. I added three dictionaries, one for each. If I start typing using a secondary keyboard all words shows underlined in red. I see some words in the recommended area that seems to be correct but no matter the word selected it always shows underlined in red. This only happens for the second and third keyboard.

Is this how it suppose to works? Any inputs?

Post is displaying URL image in Thunder but not Voyager

Hi,

I'm comparing Lemmy Android app clients and I'm between Thunder and Voyager.

I noticed something weird with Voyager. There was this post it displays an image in the timeline using Thunder but it doesn't in Voyager.

Is it some configuration that I need to tweak in Voyager?

Also, is there some config to display short text about the post if has image? Like some description below if available

Thanks
