I was meaning any kind of information wherein clarity may be valued, so political information is a valid kind to consider for sure!

While I'm aware of Contact, and know it relates to people, do you really agree with that premise? Isn't the inconsistency in employed units of measure sufficient to indicate otherwise?

Some more detail: I'm asking in regards to basics for those interested in setting up their own place online, but also just as much for some of the online services you can't be bothered to spin up yourself for one reason or another.

Thanks! I'll have to give it a look.

They only trust what the hear and see on social media.

Is there any data yet that backs this thinking?

By beta reading, do you mean beta in a similar sense to software, so like draft reading/readers?

Would there be any sort of logs either from the systems used to move the satellite, or aboard the satellite itself, to help answer the who question, if nothing else?

That's what I'm not sure of, like where would something like public blogs have appeared in the past? I know the private version is basically a journal or diary, but I'm not as sure if those were sometimes more publicly shared in the past or not.

To be more specific, by blog I'm thinking like personal, individual writings on whatever they happened to be thinking about or interested in.

Honestly broadly interested in storing/organizing any variety of things but in a way that they may be easily moved around. Tool carts are always a fav in this respect, and make me curious about similar for other things like books/models/etc.

I think posters/flyers are one of the most powerful ways to reach people in a local area, you’ve got to be in the local area to see them, right?

For sure in terms of locality, but not sure how effective they are in areas with lower foot traffic due to infrastructure. In a city this may work well, but does it also work as well in more rural, spread-out areas?

Follow-up: has anyone coming across this post started a local group, or helped with one starting out that could relate how they went about it?

Ask yourself: Why did Donald Trump win. And think about it. The answer is right before you and blazingly far more obvious than any particular action that was within Democrats or Kamala's control.

What do you personally think the reason was?

By this I sort of mean like, in the case of Lemmy for example, something like a built-in Lemmyverse of sorts.

It wouldn't be pulling in data yet from other instances, but it would enable seeing that their communities were out there so you could then tell your server you'd like to subscribe/follow/etc. their community/channel/account.

Tbh despite having been around the fediverse for awhile, I'm not sure how else ActivityPub servers were supposed to have these different things found to start with.

Things in the broad sense of software, games, books, websites, music, etc. Obscure relative to both what's widely discussed on social media but also what you see here pretty often (i.e. Linux/Fediverse stuff).

I recognize this will vary depending on how much you self-host, so I'm curious about the range of experiences from the few self-hosted things to the many self-hosted things.

Also how might you compare it to other maintenance of your other online systems (e.g. personal computer/phone/etc.)?

I know there's occasionally some backlash to reviews that go against a broader positive reception to some media, but do that many people still follow reviews to decide what to check out?

Edit:
Adjusted title to specify "entertainment media"

I've watched some here and there, but having to try to catch them when they stream has put me too much in the mind of old tv and catching shows when they air. Watching the recording afterward is maybe good for some white noise, but it's clearly not the intended experience I think.

The first function is probably familiar from some other interfaces: filter out posts according to certain keywords.

The second is possibly a little less familiar, but the idea would be like following hashtags on other federated microblogging services like Misskey or Mastodon or the like, except instead using keywords since Lemmy currently doesn't support hashtags.

Emphasis on the "or" here, as an interface that has only one of either is of interest!

Discoverability in this context meaning the ability to more effectively find public communities/people of interest. Alongside improving this however, respecting people's decisions on whether and how they may be found, if at all.
