I've been on this for a couple months and have enjoyed the experience as well. I imagine some of the overall issues encountered are more about my phone being nearly 6 years old than the launcher itself, but is the default weather widget broken for you as well?

Isn't that part of the ethos of beehaw? Something about always assuming others are acting in good faith. From what I've seen, they've managed to nurture an admirable culture on the whole.
However, they are considering leaving Lemmy altogether over issues parallel to and intersecting with the subject of this thread. I truly believe this will be a massive loss to the platform, and the attractive culture we do have will fade a bit.
I digress.
The first line of defense against misogyny here is moderation and lemmy isn't yet equipped with the tools to allow for that. Like-minded instances are a good start as well, though I feel like silo-ing off can be unhealthy, long term. Other than that, mirroring successes in the real world seem like good avenues- uplifting voices, good-faith conversations (within reason), and unrelenting fire for bigots, sexists, and other hateful people.
