Do you remember those playground contraptions that let you shovel up sand?

That shit went crazy.

I believe you get two levers. One of them lowers the scoop and the other does the grabbing motion. You can then rotate around to put the sand somewhere else.

My son is 2 so it means I get to play with these and no one looks at me weird. It’s great.

Piloting helicopters is not a very usual thing to do for the average person, but yes

[–] [email protected] 22 points 2 years ago

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 years ago

I'll fite you in in Streetfiter 6. Although if you're already ill then it might not be a fair fite.

Surely cars are also contraptions

[–] [email protected] 27 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Only manual count i guess.

Edit: also i guess that person didn't do much manual labour work.

Only if it looks like the Hanna-Barbera show about racing cars, you know the one

[–] [email protected] 15 points 2 years ago

I can accept that compromise

Wacky Races

If you got a Model T or something old. Modern cars are filled with gizmos and gadgets. Even engines are regulated by like 3 computers. It's the gadgetization of life.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

go karts are the outer limit of what can be a contraption imo

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The key phrase is gives the experience of riding a contraption.

Manual transmission cars too. But when you're stuck in traffic it sucks.

Sailing boats?

Is a row boat a contraption?

[–] [email protected] 19 points 2 years ago (3 children)

a sailing boat can be with the pulleys a row boat isn't complicated enough to be a contraption

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 years ago

I feel like a contraption needs a continuously moving bit to qualify, and the distinction from a gizmo is whether it’s hand-held or not

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I think a wind surfer could put in an application to be a contraption. I feel a sailing boat is straight up a vehicle as you could live in one.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 years ago

ok fair enough it's a vehicle that has contraptions on it though

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

A bicycle is a vehicle as well though, or am I misunderstanding something?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

A bicycle tows the line. I'm no expert in contraptions because my schooling and early career helped me work in the adrenochrome factory instead of for Lockheed Martin

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Definitely a collection of doohickeys, doodads and gizmos

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 years ago

a large thingamabob at best

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Not even making a joke here, a small boat would be called a Dinghy

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 years ago

and a slightly larger boat, a:

[–] [email protected] 14 points 2 years ago

I kind of agree with this.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 years ago

People missing the point on this are so funny, like "surely my heated toilet with bidet is a contraption too"
