For owls that are superb.

If you find an injured owl:

Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.

Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.

Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.

If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

WINNER: Northern Pygmy Owl 43-16

The stern looking Northern Hawk Owl was a huge hit recently in a series if perch hunting photos. This owl is found all across sub Arctic areas where it hunts rodents in pristine boreal forests. It's bold stripped look is an attention getter. It's also one of only a few owls that hunts both day and night.

The Northern Pygmy Owl is from Western North America. This tiny owl (6in / 15cm) sits practically invisible at the top of tall trees to wait for its prey. Previously featured here as the owl with eyes in the back of its head, will this little puffball be able to take down the mighty Hawk Owl?

Upvote your favorite below and be sure you voted in the other match today between the Long Eared vs Buffy Fish Owl!

I've never seen this owl before! looks like a Hitman at work 😠

That is exactly what I think of! He's so serious looking like a Mafia character you know you don't want to make eye contact with.

Great owl, but you can't deny that the northern pygmy owl is superb.

That seems to be the popular opinion!

Honestly, I find most of the small brown owls look too similar to me, while the Hawk Owl looks very unique and I like it's badass attitude.

Both are owls, so they get my full support either way!

This is a good point. You have swayed me.

Oh no! No interference by me! This is an unbiased poll! 😅

The Little, Elf, and Burrow Owls all being the same things to the party as the Pygmy, except the false eyes. They're all good owls though.

Cute and small owls are what brought many of you to either SuberbOwl I'm sure, but I could post one and tell you it's another and probably trick most of you, but only the Hawk Owl looks like the Hawk Owl.

Only he knows that you're already dead

Plot twist: the little guy is actually the assassin.

Gets away with it everytime. Like Jessica Fletcher in Cabot Cove.

Or The Murder on the Orient Express: they're all the killer! 😉

The animal kingdom is one tough place!

I vote Hawk Owl. I like it's triangle brow and M shaped face, and that it looks smart enough to be as pissed off as it looks (which I know is anthropomorphising but grumpy owls are adorable).

I'm happy Hawk Owl has made some new fans today.

I love the pygmy owl. He looks round.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 years ago

Round is definitely something it does well! If we're talking cute factor, Pygmy whips Hawk Owl tail.

It is like an adult owlet !

I vote angry hitman owl, but I fear all arguments are useless against ROUNDNESS.

Yes, this matchup went more lopsided than I expected. After the first hour it was 4-4, but then 15 min later it was something like 12-4 and had stayed at about that ratio since then.

Hitman owl is definitely picking up some new fans though, which is my goal.
