Good advice, but last time I sort by "All new" it gaves me mental illnes.
Tbh doing the same on Reddit does the same thing. Only there's a ton more of it which somehow makes it worse.
"All new" is ludicrous. "All Active/Hot" to find communities, once you're subscribed, "Subscribed New" is fine.
Imo lemmy's Active is r*ddit's Hot and lemmy's Hot is Rising but that's just my impression
You can block that here. If you want.
Once you finish: "I can see why Lemmy's user base is dwindling".

Been on lemmy for three years and I've never really lacked for content though.
My default was Active, but I've switched to Hot for All.
More new things but not a lot of comments. Kind of nice to get in on the ground floor for those wanting to comment though...
I prefer Scaled over Hot as it gives boost to smaller communities making it more fair.
Scaled? Is that an instance-specific thing you have? I don't have it on mine.

My home instance is currently on Lemmy 0.19.0-rc.5, so there's some new features, and I thought this one was here already since it's mentioned on join-lemmy.org.

It's not sync, it's you're instance's lemmy version. The stable release doesn't include it yet. They're on a release client for 0.19 which should officially launch soon.
I think it depends on the version.
... and yeah, might be an instance thing now that I thought about it longer. Some instance versions (that I've seen so far) dance from 0.18 to 0.19
Lemmy is, like, reverse reddit. You don't subscribe to things, you block everything you don't like. That way "all" becomes "subscribed" but bottomless and let's you still discover new instances. You'll know you're getting somewhere when your blocked list starts looking like this.
