Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Friendly reminder: when commenting about a news event, especially something that just happened, please provide a source of some kind. While ideally this would be on nitter or archived, any source is preferable to none at all given.

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA daily-ish reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.
More telegram channels here for those interested.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

The Country of the Week is still Palestine, though we will switch next week to a new country.

Here is the map of the Ukraine conflict, courtesy of Wikipedia.

The weekly (biweekly?) update is here.

Links and Stuff

The bulletins site is down.

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists

Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Add to the above list if you can.

Resources For Understanding The War

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Telegram Channels

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

Pro-Russian

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.

https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.

https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine

Almost every Western media outlet.

https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.

https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Last week's discussion post.

‘Active investigations ongoing’: ICC Prosecutor

If you’re just joining us here’s more on the International Criminal Court’s Prosecutor Karim Khan news conference which happened in Cairo on Sunday.

Khan said the court has “active investigations ongoing” in relation to “crimes allegedly committed in Israel on October 7, and also in relation to Gaza and the West Bank in our jurisdiction, going back to 2014”.

“We are independently looking at the situation in Palestine, we are looking at events in Israel and the allegations that Palestinian nationals have also committed crimes,” Khan said.

the ICC is looking at allegations that Palestinians committed crimes guys

Al-Jazeera - Qatar is in the advance stages of reaching a ceasefire deal between Israel & Hamas.

A breakthrough could be achieved in the coming days.

I've seen tonnes and tonnes of rumours about this today. I think it's legit. Combined with the fact that domestically the political situation is turning against a ground operation....

I think it's a real possibility, I'm getting hopeful.

GeoConfirmed ISR-PAL - Hospital Bombing

Based on the geolocation of new footage its highly likely that:

The missile -Al Jazeera footage- is an interceptor. (Iron Dome) The explosion in the air is too far away to be related to the hospital explosion.

Deranged Zionist Rabbi: Conquest is a mitzvah and God purposely surrounds Israel with enemies to hint at our religious duty to conquer.

He gets a shoutout in a Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eli_(Israeli_settlement)

In April 2019, the head of the school, Rabbi Eliezer Kashtiel (he), was filmed lecturing to students on the genetic inferiority of gentiles, Palestinians, on their stupidity, and the need for them to be enslaved. He endorsed racism, and the superiority of the Jewish people.

Reactionaries are pushing this around as some sort of terror attack attempt related to current events.

It might not be but it's potentially worth knowing about. Far right seems to be really leaning in on "global ethnic war" now.

I find it interesting that reddit was initially billed (well, early on, I'm not a reddit history expert and I'm not going to look it up) as a "news aggregator"; on reddit you'd post a link to a news article and there's a centralised source of comments and discussion. The language of that hasn't carried over to hexbear, but we've sort of recreated the idea in the news megathread. Sort of.

Israel bombs next to al-Shifa Hospital, explosions puncture darkness in Gaza

Al Jazeera’s live feed from Gaza shows almost complete darkness, with the huge explosions that accompany Israel’s bombs roaring through the besieged enclave intermittently.

Some of the latest attacks have hit next to Gaza City’s al-Shifa Hospital and the Indonesian Hospital, as well as the Breij refugee camp.

A near-total communication blackout in Gaza means that most of the residents there are unable to reach emergency services, nor are they able to tell the world about what is happening on what is surely a terrifying – and deadly – night for civilians.

holy fuck the animals are actually going for it

Update from the Front:

I awoke this morning to find my country (my apartment) had been invaded by terrorists (ants). They were not present yesterday when I was conducting environmental pollution mitigation exercises (cleaning my apartment), but they appeared to have found soft targets for their terrorism (some crumbs under a file cabinet that props up one end of my desk).

A fierce battle was waged into the early afternoon. I captured 100+ terrorists using my latest wunderwaffe (a handheld vacuum) but later released these POWs back into enemy territory (my balcony). I have conducted both aerial and ground chemical warfare attacks (sprayed lemon and eucalyptus essential oil) around suspected entrance points to deter further enemy incursions. So far the truce has held. I have taken no casualties and I estimate enemy casualties to be less than 5.

Reuters:

Israel's military said on Monday its ground forces mounted limited raids into Gaza and airstrikes targeted Palestinian militants assembling to repulse any wider Israeli invasion, as each side prepares for the next stage of the escalating war.

Palestinian group Hamas said on Sunday its fighters had engaged an armoured force infiltrating a southern area of Gaza and destroyed some Israeli military equipment before returning to base. There was no Israeli comment on such losses.

Some on Twitter are saying that both Israeli and US small groups (perhaps special forces?) entered Gaza to look for hostages and were killed/repelled. I've been curious about how our very special adult sons (of which the uncensored photo was taken, then deleted and reposted with censorship, lmfao) are even gonna attempt to find hostages in heavily defended and trapped cities and tunnel networks spanning hundreds of miles. Like, are they gonna enter a tunnel and just hope it leads somewhere important and that they don't get fucking owned by militants who know the network like the back of their hands? The assault to find and kill Osama bin Laden was a comedy of errors and that didn't involve thousands of armed soldiers defending him that the soldiers had to fight past. Are they donning their Halo Spartan armor and shit?

White House has not responded to report it asked Qatar to tone down Al Jazeera’s coverage

The report by the Axios news agency said US top diplomat Antony Blinken had, less than two weeks ago, asked his Qatari counterpart to “tone down Al Jazeera’s rhetoric” on the Israel-Gaza war.

Reporting from Washington, Al Jazeera’s White House correspondent Kimberly Halkett said the administration has not responded to the report. She added that while Qatar “funds Al Jazeera, it does not in any way editorially shape our coverage”.

“I can tell you that, in my own interactions with the Biden administration, I have had pushback where I’ve been told that our coverage is critical of US foreign policy, and I defended it saying that that is healthy and that is what our job is to do,” she said.

“While there has been no attempt to try and in any way dispute this on the part of the White House, I can tell you from my own personal experiences that this certainly does echo what I have experienced here on the White House campus and in my interactions with the White House press office,” she said.

news mega wisdom from our largest adult son in the 25 august vlog

No blowback is actually blowback. Even if the results are unintended, they are always then turned into opportunities because of the commanding position, because of the ability to act that is monopolized by the United States at the global level. That means every situation can be turned to [its] best interests.

Which is one of the reasons that people who reason backwards about every social revolt in the world as having to be an American op because as it unfolds the United States ends up benefiting from it- is ridiculous, is childlike thinking.

America dominates because any spontaneous and sincere social resistance is going to be unorganized and probably defeated, but the pressure on the state that it creates will persist and can be exploited by the one power that can act: the United States.

Sometimes the United States orchestrates things, when it has to. But for the most part it doesn't have to. That's one of those things that super-blackpilled conspiracy people who think they're telling you deep, hard truths- are actually being incredibly naive. Because they assume that the United States has to have that level of conspiratorial interference going on in order to benefit from everything. Not that its role as imperial hegemon makes that the default state everywhere.

I think the cia probably has fingers in more pies than he gives it credit for, but the ability to maneuver in response to organic social unrest around the world is an important piece of maintaining atlantic imperialism that I don't see people talk about very much

This is a tragic offensive that only bugs could plan, but also bugs can’t think. So they are both the manipulators of worlds, and scum of the universe. It’s perfect! WERE GOING TO WAR BABY WOOHOO!

And the dude isn't a nobody but has a rather length Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moshe_Feiglin

Let's try to search for, I don't know, "Hitler":

Hitler was an unparalleled military genius. Nazism promoted Germany from a low to a fantastic physical and ideological status. The ragged, trashy youth body turned into a neat and orderly part of society and Germany received an exemplary regime, a proper justice system and public order. Hitler savored good music. He would paint. This was no bunch of thugs. They merely used thugs and homosexuals.

I realized something about libs. They deeply unconsciously believe that no one us-foreign-policy should ever be harmed or inconvenienced for anything they didn't personally and deliberately do, and that it's never acceptable to harm or inconvenience anyone us-foreign-policy in pursuit of some large scale goal, with no awareness or interest in material conditions and realities.

They'll never support any serious action because some bystanders us-foreign-policy will get hurt and to them that makes taking any action unthinkable (as long as the bystanders us-foreign-policy pass the albedo test)

has the resistance said they'd accept a ceasefire, or would they kind of have no choice because of how disastrous a situation Gaza is in? I feel like an indefinite ceasefire, without an end to the occupation, would be bad long term - that's why I kind of have mixed feelings about the rallying cry for 'just' a ceasefire.

my position right now is that Israel isn't going to listen or be pressured to do anything anyway, so calling for a ceasefire is good because it makes it more difficult for countries to keep backing Israel in the way they are? idk

Egypt leader warns his forces against ‘wrong decisions’ with Israel

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has cautioned his military against any direct involvement in Israel’s war on Gaza.

“My message to the army and people is not to make your military power make you rush into wrong decisions,” el-Sisi said in front of dozens of tanks in the port city of Suez.

The president added the Egyptian army has a history of dealing with crises “rationally and with patience”.

Egypt has criticised Israel over its bombardment of Gaza, accusing it of trying to push hundreds of thousands of Palestinians onto its territory and nullify Palestinians’ demand for statehood.

- Al Jazeera

things you say when you're definitely in control of your military

what is this about? is Sisi worried about a coup, or just that they'll counter the next time Israel "accidentally" attacks them?

Hamas official says no negotiations taking place with Israel

Hamas spokesman Osama Hamdan has said there are “no talks” currently taking place between the group and Israel over a potential ceasefire and prisoner exchange.

“There [were] talks and there [were] political efforts to achieve such an arrangement”, he told Al Jazeera, but there are “no talks” amid the intensified Israeli bombardment of Gaza.

Hamdan said Israeli forces are “moving towards the borders of Gaza from different points”.

“It’s clear that they know they have lost … the narrative issue, so they want to cut Gaza from the world in order to commit their crimes in deep silence,” he said.

“It’s clear they’ve started that [ground invasion], but they’re worried about the consequences, they are worried about what might happen on the ground and they are facing a very strong resistance.”
