I've been wondering if quelling the protests wasn't some of the reason behind the Israeli reaction. You know the political saying...

Israel needs no excuses to bomb the crap out of Gaza or tighten the screws on Palestine. But the reaction will be particularly ferocious given that Netanyahu has abjectly failed to deliver the security he justifies his entire premiership on. Inevitably so, given that the lack of security is entirely down to keeping 4 million Palestinians hostage to a brutal occupation.
