Having a bit of an identity crisis, but basically my family’s only been here in the US since the 1920’s. I don’t know if that history is long enough to be considered an “American”. I still have a foreign looking name, a foreign looking face, yet I never visited the Middle East even though they came here around 100 years ago. But people still assume that I wasn’t born here, even if I speak in a very whitewashed-ish way.
And when I say Arab-American, people always ask where I’m “from from”, even if I don’t know the country that my family’s from. So what do I respond?
